As a kid, The Wild, Wild West was my favorite show. Always wanted to be as cool as Jim West.

And there is the third. I think.

Douglas, Bean and now Conrad.

Loved Baa Baa Black Sheep, and those battery commercials, “I dare you to knock this off!”

I also remember him from “Battle of the Network Stars”, I recall he took it pretty seriously, too.

Loved it; Conrad and Ross Martin were great, a western version of the James Bond movies. On for four seasons, taken off even though its ratings remained very high bc Congress was concerned about tv violence (very mild by comparison to the crazy junk on now).

Sad, he was a fixture near where I grew up in CA...he had a home at the Bear Valley ski resort and had a plane at the Calaveras Co. airport.

I don’t know the comment went while I was at Google, but Robert Wagner is 89.

At one time he was thinking about running for the Senate. The rumor was he was warned off by threatening him with something from his past.

Wild Wild West with the anachronisms. Set during the Grant administration 1869-1877 where there were steam juggernauts, Edison talking machines and primitive moving pictures. Isn’t that what they call Steampunk nowadays?

Who was the midget actor who was West’s nemesis and always managed to escape at the end?

Both Conrads. Robert as Pappy Boyington from Black Sheep Squadron and William as Cannon.

When I was a kid in the 70s my dad always told me about his three favorite shows: Wild Wild West, Get Smart, and Star Trek. At the time, only Star Trek was in syndication in my area. But when Baa Baa Black Sheep" (at some point rechristened "Black Sheep Squadron") came on he told me "that's Jim West!"

What a show, a serious war drama with some comedic elements playing on the "they're a bunch of misfits" angle but played really straight. Bar fights, pilots going after each other after a bad mission, aerial combat.... I was about seven or eight and I LOVED that show! Man I wanted to fly a corsair so badly. The network messed it up through in the second season by introducing new pilots with long 70s hair and a bunch of Farah Fawcett clones being called "Pappy's Lambs" in the credits ... felt like a different show which, for all intents and purposes, it was. Nevertheless I remained a big Conrad fan.

Later when Wild Wild West started to run in my area discovered that my old man was spot on right about that one too. Essentially James Bond in the old west, another great Robert Conrad show made even better because of Ross Martin's incredible character Artemus Gordon!
