Robert Conrad, the athletic, two-fisted actor who starred as Secret Service agent James West and did his own spectacular stunts on the 1960s futuristic CBS Western The Wild Wild West, has died. He was 84.

"He lived a wonderfully long life and while the family is saddened by his passing, he will live forever in their hearts," family spokesman Jeff Ballard told People magazine. No other details of his death were immediately available.

I also remember him from “Battle of the Network Stars”, I recall he took it pretty seriously, too.

I don't know if it was proto-reality TV (i.e. faked drama) or not but in the clip below Conrad was ranting and raving about being disqualified in a relay for something or other and it came down to a 100 yard dash race the two team captains, Robert Conrad Vs Gabe "Welcome Back Kotter" Kaplan, to decide a winner. The video below includes Conrads meltdown but it will go straight to the final race between Kaplan and Conrad. Picture the two and imagne who you think would win .... then click the link and see for yourself.

When I was a kid in the 70s my dad always told me about his three favorite shows: Wild Wild West, Get Smart, and Star Trek. At the time, only Star Trek was in syndication in my area. But when Baa Baa Black Sheep" (at some point rechristened "Black Sheep Squadron") came on he told me "that's Jim West!"

What a show, a serious war drama with some comedic elements playing on the "they're a bunch of misfits" angle but played really straight. Bar fights, pilots going after each other after a bad mission, aerial combat.... I was about seven or eight and I LOVED that show! Man I wanted to fly a corsair so badly. The network messed it up through in the second season by introducing new pilots with long 70s hair and a bunch of Farah Fawcett clones being called "Pappy's Lambs" in the credits ... felt like a different show which, for all intents and purposes, it was. Nevertheless I remained a big Conrad fan.

Later when Wild Wild West started to run in my area discovered that my old man was spot on right about that one too. Essentially James Bond in the old west, another great Robert Conrad show made even better because of Ross Martin's incredible character Artemus Gordon!

Can’t recall the name of the actor who played Migalito but he had a beautiful singing voice.

I met and became a life long friend of his back in 1978.

I was managing a beach front piano bar/restaurant for a high school buddy in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
(The Sly Fox on the Galt Ocean Mile)

Bob use to visit whenever he was in town and we’d sit and talk til closing.

Sometimes we would go out ‘bar hopping’ after I closed our place.

He was a fun guy but quick to anger.

I will miss him.

Agreed. Loved the Wild Wild West as a kid. The remake was a disgrace....

RIP Mr. Conrad.

"Can’t recall the name of the actor who played

The actor's name was Michael Dunn.

In The Wild Wild West show is name is spelled Miguelito
because he was descended from the Spanish that ruled
California before it became a state. Actually his full,
fictional name was Dr. Miguelito Quixote Loveless.

He was always trying to take over California because
he thought it belonged to him through his Spanish
ancestors that once ruled there.
