Its perfectly possible to feel tired and at the same time have trouble dropping off. Certain life stresses and health problems can leave us feeling exhausted, but at the same time make it difficult to relax and get to sleep. Also, missing out on sleep can disrupt our natural rhythms, which can make us feel wide awake when wed usually be sleeping.
Finally, caregivers sometimes refer to their infants as being too tired to sleep. This happens when the baby has been awake for longer than their little bodies can cope with, resulting in stress and difficulties settling.
I think this is true. I’m pretty much awake 24 hours per day. I don’t even know how I’m still alive,
short answer is YES. (Up at 2am). I need to work at getting on a sleep awake schedule. Don’t have issues except in the winter. Shutting down the brain is key. Also melatonin helps.

Lemme sleep on it, if i can, and I’ll give my answer in the morning
sheesh- that aint good- I’m sure you’ve probably tried just about everythign to get to sleep- nothign worse than wantign sleep but you can’t- do yo get cat naps in at least, i hope?
I have a problem where I get severe hypnic jerks if I have been awake for long periods of time. They jerk me wide awake just as I am dozing off and I can have over half a dozen attacks.
yes. Been there. its miserable.
Advil PM works miracles for this problem.
If that's true you won't be for much longer. Do a search for Fatal Familial Insomnia. National Geographic did a great article on this disease a few years back. It's worth a read.

Yes. Unisom Sleep Melts has the same active ingredient as Advil PM. The only difference is that the Unisom product doesnt contain any Ibuprofen for pain.
As you said, it works. And as a bonus, its not habit-forming. The only down side - for me anyway - is that it gives me dry mouth. No big deal there.

Yes..had this occasionally when younger...now at 77 I sleep less ...main sleep is 4 hours...but I know this and if my body tells me to slow down any time during the day I take a nap,,,if driving I pull over and park in the shade and take a half hour nap.
One of my doctor’s suspected narcolepsy. Do you also having “exploding head syndrome” It is where you hear a sudden loud noise as you are falling asleep. I also as a teen had severe sleep paralysis.
For some of us,it's genetic. ;)
What I really hate is when you are too dirty to go to bed but too tired to take a bath.
Like when you are drunk as a skunk and have diarrhea and throw up at the same time but cant figure out which end to put in the toilet first?
If posible, make an effort to spend more time outdoors during daylight hours. Otherwise, see a dermatologist about phototherapy. Just a few minutes per week helps sleep and mood.
Mine isn’t caused by being drunk as a skunk. Yet, I have been known to be sitting on the toilet holding a bowl for nausea at the same time. I blame dengue fever in that case. Or, food poisoning. That was a lot of fun, too.
I feel the same way, Gov.
“Shutting down the brain is key.”
That’s my problem. Four or five hours is normal. Am thrilled if I can hit six.
