Officials at the Brazos County Health District said Thursday they are investigating a suspected case of the 2019 novel coronavirus.
The male patient, who has been identified as a student at Texas A&M University, had traveled from Wuhan, China, where the coronavirus that has made headlines in recent days first originated, officials said.

that is MERS not this strain. Time will tell but so far I havent seen anything that would make this worse than influenza
Yes. influenza is widespread and deadly every year but not nearly as sexy to talk and hyperventilate about.

Yes, I think its out there. The mortality rate may be hard to determine (at first) because the Chinese always lie and in addition its mutating.
To make it worse, I read that Wuhan was in the news about a year ago because China moved its equivalent of the CDC with its most lethal contagious diseases research facility to Wuhan at that time. So who knows?
It is encouraging that the one or two cases we have had here appear to have recovered pretty quickly. We will see when we have more reliable data
