It is encouraging that the one or two cases we have had here appear to have recovered pretty quickly. We will see when we have more reliable data
I recommend that people procure a supply of NAC (N-acetylcysteine) for lung prophylaxis and start taking it. A fair amount of peer-reviewed research available, including its influence on the cytokine system. As those of us who weathered the bird/swine flu and SARS scares learned, it is often the cytokine storm that kills you. One unanswered question: what dose? The response may be curvilinear.
Yes, I agree. But more reliable data, especially with the Chinese, may be awhile in coming. In any case, its already out.
Interestingly, the Spanish flu of 1918 wasn’t Spanish at all. Spain was neutral in WWI, and thus there was no censorship and the newspapers could report on the flu in Spain. Supposedly, the Spanish flu actually started in France, at a French military camp, in an area that had the perfect brew for it - pigs and ducks. It then spread to other military camps in French and British controlled territory, and also turned up among the Germans. But censorship for fear of demoralizing or panicking the civilian population prevented it from being reported.
However, one thing rarely mentioned is that France and the other countries had brought in a large number of Chinese laborers to fill the void left by the conscription of their young men. It seems to me that China must be one vast Petri dish.
