Judge Awards Nearly $13 Million to Women Who Say They Were Exploited by Porn Producers
New York Times ^ | 01/02/2020 | Michael Levenson

A Superior Court judge in San Diego tentatively awarded nearly $13 million to almost two dozen young women on Thursday, ruling that they had been tricked into performing in pornographic videos that derailed and uprooted their lives and led several to become suicidal.

The ruling capped an unusual 99-day civil trial that exposed the bait-and-switch tactics and false promises deployed as part of a scheme to induce young women, who would not otherwise consider filming pornography, to fly to San Diego and shoot a pornographic video.

...snip...

Judge Enright found that the women had been lured with Craiglist ads that offered to pay them around $5,000 for photos or video shoots. The ads did not indicate that any nudity or pornography would be involved.

“Wanted,” one ad read, “beautiful college type preppy girls,” for video and photo shoots.

The women who responded to the ads said they were directed to innocuous websites, with pictures of clothed women, that asked for their contact information and photographs.

The ads turned out to be from the producers of GirlsDoPorn, who were seeking women to make so-called amateur pornography, which often features fresh-faced actresses paired with seasoned male performers.

Once a newly recruited woman had flown to San Diego, she found herself alone in a hotel room with two men about to shoot a pornographic video, Judge Enright wrote.

At this point, the producers had the women sign documents containing “dense and ambiguous legalese,” which they falsely described as guarantees that their videos would be distributed only on DVD outside of the United States and would never be published online, Judge Enright wrote.

“Defendants rush and pressure the woman to sign the documents quickly without reading them and engage in other deceptive, coercive and threatening behavior to secure their signatures,” Judge Enright wrote...

I suspect they are holding the young woman’s ticket home. . . If there is one at all.

It's probably also the case that the predators are well practiced at being friendly and persuasive. Confidence men succeed at their scams because getting people's trust is their business.

The Porn Producers should have been charged with Human Trafficking - a serious Federal crime.

They have been criminally charged with sex trafficking, sex by fraud and coercion, and other offenses. The criminal trial hasn't started yet.

Additionally, one of the defendants is facing a child porn charge when it came to light that one of the girls he filmed was only 16.

Yep. Read the verdict. These guys had the script down pretty good. They were friendly and persuasive at first and then became intimidating and persuasive once they got the girls to the shoot.

Amazing how many gullible and trusting people there are. Ah, it’s better than being a jaded NYer. I learned to stop trusting people by 7 :)

I will say after reading some of the verdict in the OP, I do feel kinda bad for these girls. Most porn is consensual, even if there are power differentials involved and even, ultimately, GDP was consensual as well, but that doesn't change the fact that these girls were lied to, deceived, exploited, and humiliated.

Women don’t spread their legs for strange men. Its a porn male fantasy.

It has nothing to do with reality and any man who expects a woman to sleep with him on the first date is in for disappointment.

Like hell they don't.

I got divorced five years ago when I was 45. I tried internet dating for a bit and went out with a few women I met online. They were around my age, divorced women most with decent jobs living in decent homes. None were even remotely trashy looking or acting, I wouldn't have asked them out if they were.

I'm not pushy at all on a date and never tried to get anywhere on the first date, I just walked them to the door after a nice dinner with the intention of giving them a good night kiss, telling them I enjoyed it, and leaving. More than once I was asked point blank if I wanted to spend the night. I did in case you're wondering.

It is not at all uncommon for a woman to have sex on a first date with someone she's never met before and for her to initiate it in this day and age. To be honest I was shocked when it happened to me, it wasn't what I remembered from my pre-married life, but I didn't say no.

“Is it defending porn, or just acknowledging that a government that has the power to eliminate it, may be a case of the ‘cure being worse than the disease’?”

I did not mention the role of government.

Porn is evil and destructive to society, families, and individuals.

Besides all of these ills, it will also result in many people going to Hell.

This forum is the last place it should be defended.

Matthew 5:28-30
But I say to you that whoever looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart. If your right eye causes you to sin, pluck it out and cast it from you; for it is more profitable for you that one of your members perish, than for your whole body to be cast into hell. And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and cast it from you; for it is more profitable for you that one of your members perish, than for your whole body to be cast into hell.

“ruling that they had been tricked into performing in pornographic videos”

I hate when that happens. They were promised that the videos of them doinking a complete stranger would only be sold to private collectors.

What’s that old joke? “We have already established what kind of girl you are. Now we are only negotiating the price”.

If they had a scrap of morals, they would have walked right out the door when told it was porn. If the men used force to keep them there, that’s rape. If they chose to stay because they liked the money and the conditions described of how their porn would be distributed, they are just poor businesswomen.

I saw a news story how the main plaintiff was so upset that her boyfriend found out. That was her issue, that he found out and broke up with her.

“She’s likely been promised a long term modeling contract and got a one-way ticket to get there and has no place to go, and likely very little money, no idea where she is, and the location is likely not a good neighborhood where an attractive young woman would feel safe to be ejected with her luggage.”

Baloney. You find the nearest cop, say I just got scammed, and I need help. Call family of friend and say I just got scammed, they said it was modeling but they wanted me to do porn...i need a ticket home please.
OR.. dare I say it, call their minister, or walk into the nearest church and tell your story.

They had options. But they were overcome by greed.

OR.. dare I say it, call their minister, or walk into the nearest church and tell your story.

Oh, come off it! You really think these SNOWFLAKE MILLENNIAL girls are church attenders? My guess is they’ve been relieved of their phones by this point. They’re already in the process of doing photo shooting, but it hasn’t progressed to the requiring porn stage quite so quickly, but I’d bet their purses are not on them. "By the way, cell phones are not allowed in the studio."

You are still not grasping the fact that this unsophisticated and likely not-too-bright girl, who has most probably just had her eighteenth birthday, is now a stranger in a strange land.

"Nearest church"? In a motel strip, or an industrial area where porn studios do their productions? Where are these girls going to find a "nearest church?” You’ve got to be kidding me. "Nearest cop?” This is Southern California, DesertRhino. There ain’t no such thing as a "nearest cop," unless she’s extremely lucky to run into a patrol car by accident.

Porn production is legal there, unless the girl is under age. . . It will be a "she said, he said," or even a "she said, she said," civil matter because there’s no contract except what she was told orally over a phone call to get her there. If she already signed the "contract" it’s even more of a civil matter. . . and the lawyers these sleeves have who write those contracts were very sharp.

It took a civil suit, which is what this lawsuit and article was about, to find they signed not freely, but under coercion.

Men lure college girls who have never participated in porn, and likely never would have, through innocuous clothed modeling sites advertised on craigslist.

They offer crazy amounts of money.

They utilize “ringers” who convince the girls that everything is legit.

They fly them to San Diego where it’s revealed that they’ll actually be doing adult modeling but not to worry because the scenes will only be released on DVD to an elite clientele in Australia and New Zealand. Never on the internet. Nobody will ever find out.

The girls reluctantly agree, quickly sign mumbo-jumbo contracts, and often find out they will be paid far less than originally promised.

The footage is realeased on the internet on both free and subscription sites.

I would like to wish ladies good luck...

About the promise to release video clips only in Australia...
It is a ridiculous promise in the internet age.
But, I still think producers should be held responsible for making that promise...
I don’t want to just blame young ladies for believing that promise...

While the actions of the defendants are despicable, this seems like another example of young people with no common sense, and an ability to make themselves victims. How hard is it to realize when you are a college student that some stranger who wants to film you having sex is asking you to do something you should just say no to?

If you did your job as a parent your children should be able to recognize bad situations by the time they are 18 years old, and avoid them. Deciding to shoot a porn film for pay with other actors is not a good decisions regardless of whether or not your participation is supposedly going to be kept secret. Didn’t these girls parents ever tell their daughters to just not have sex with strangers in return for money?

I think you made excellent points...

I think it is possible that some young ladies had problems at home...No father in the house...Mother is too busy working because father left...A parent has a drinking problem. That means some young ladies may not get good guidance...

There may be some cases like this but the internet is filled with women who absolutely know what they are doing, modelling and posing for nude and porn photos and videos, and who are under no false impressions. They know exactly what they are doing and why and in most cases are age-verified and must sign waivers.

Don’t expect us to believe it’s the innocent 1950s - which weren’t, really, just more hidden.

Several days ago, I posted an article about a high school science teacher who resigned because people found out about her sex videos.

http://freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/3804509/posts

It is not mentioned in the article. But, I read in other stories... Ms. Emily Salazar and her husband had a website
showing her sex videos. She mentioned that, if a person wanted to buy her videos, that person should DM her. She accepted Paypal. That website is still in existence. But, the content is gone...

Women don’t spread their legs for strange men. Its a porn male fantasy.

It has nothing to do with reality and any man who expects a woman to sleep with him on the first date is in for disappointment.

And the flip side? No man wants to marry an easy woman. That’s male nature, too.

_________________________________________________

I will give some quotes from the high school science teacher, Emily Salazar, who resigned last year because some male students, in her school, watched her sex videos. Those students then spread that news on campus...

She gave an interview to some website dealing with cuckolding in 2018...She used name “Erica”:

“I can’t explain how turned on I get when I go back and watch videos from past encounters. The sexiness to me is the genuine pleasure that is happening, so I don’t want to ever compromise that.”

“Pleasure, that is my main boundary. I do what feels good to me and my bulls.”

“While eating we were approached by a couple we knew from the lifestyle. They had a place near by and a lot of bulls coming over for a party and they invited us. We went over and I ended up in the room with a line of guys taking turns as hubby filmed… that was a sexy night.”

OK...Ms. Salazar and her husband are swingers.
Some women are really into having sex.

She did also say this:

“All the various aspects of my life bring me so much joy/pleasure. I adore being a mother to my beautiful children. It brings a joy that I cannot get from anything else. Don’t get me wrong, I get joy from other things but it’s not the same as a hug or a “Love you mom” from my kids.”

I don’t think Ms. Salazar would ever teach science in high school again...She could have just engaged in swinger life style without making any videos...

My wife of 40+ years has several girlfriends from former workplaces.
They are all single, divorced women.
She regularly meets with them for lunch, dinner, etc.
Their description of their sex lives are amazing to me.
Go on vacation, meet a guy at a bar, and have a poke.

It took a civil suit, which is what this lawsuit and article was about, to find they signed not freely, but under coercion.

The girls were plied with alcohol and drugs. In one case the hotel door was barricaded. One girl flew to San Diego on her 18th birthday and filmed her sex scene the following day.

About halfway through the verdict posted in post 1, they give accounts of each of the 22 Jane Does.

These guys took a bizarrely cruel fascination with publicly doxxing these girls as soon as possible. In many cases, almost immediately after filming, the girls found hard core scenes emailed through social media to friends, family, employers, on Facebook pages etc. The men had their real names and contact info.

So not only did they lie that their identities would never be found out, they took the necessary steps to ensure exactly this would happen!
