While the actions of the defendants are despicable, this seems like another example of young people with no common sense, and an ability to make themselves victims. How hard is it to realize when you are a college student that some stranger who wants to film you having sex is asking you to do something you should just say no to?
If you did your job as a parent your children should be able to recognize bad situations by the time they are 18 years old, and avoid them. Deciding to shoot a porn film for pay with other actors is not a good decisions regardless of whether or not your participation is supposedly going to be kept secret. Didn’t these girls parents ever tell their daughters to just not have sex with strangers in return for money?

I think you made excellent points...
I think it is possible that some young ladies had problems at home...No father in the house...Mother is too busy working because father left...A parent has a drinking problem. That means some young ladies may not get good guidance...
I agree. Instead of spending as many hours on harmful indoctrination in schools it would not be a bad idea to have at least a few classes on things not to do. The same classes could introduce a few common sense concepts about how not to get taken advantage of, and an introduction to personal safety, responsibility, and maybe even that advantages of positive character traits and behaviors.
