Electronic voting methods are easier to change. Having a hard copy at least guarantees the ability to physically recount.
If anyone wants an example of what appeared to be an orderly and well-run hand count, just go back and watch some of the videos about how Brexit vote was counted.
If it takes more than one day to count and verify counts, so be it.
These were in the electronic count, but forgotten when they did the manual recount.
There are 833 ballots in this box, and the vote counts (yes/no) were 820 less in the recount.
THe other 13 probably are undervotes, as the final manual count had 176 no-votes, and 13 is a reasonable number of undervotes (9%) given they lost 4% of the ballots. But it is also possible that the manual count WAS going to find a few extra votes, or find a few miscounted.
It seems clear that this ballot box was missed in the recount. And if they are concerned with chain of custody, the correct course of action would be to throw out the recount, and go back to the original count, not to accept the recount that missed an entire ballot box.
So many people are missing the story here — the democrats WANT the money. THe original vote REJECTED the money by 25 votes.
They held a recount, and they SKIPPED this ballot box, and the recount won by 11 votes, giving the democrats the money they wanted.
THe recount found 820 fewer votes than the original, and there are 833 ballots in this box.
So while the argument over whether we should count this box, or what to do, is interesting, this is not a case where democrats “found” another ballot box to try to overturn an election they didn’t like.
If anything, it is a case where democrats SKIPPED a ballot box in order to overturn an election they didn’t like. Although it really does just seem like stupidity.
Yeah, paper ballots are good, until you lose a box of them and overturn an election.
A lovely example of that is Dino Rossi several years ago in WA. He won the election by ~1000 votes. Then another ballot box was found, and his margin dropped to half that.
A second “lost” box was found, and the margin shrunk again, but Rossi was still leading.
Then the manual recount happened, and surprise! Fraudoire won.
The dimrats keep counting until they win. Then all attempts at further clarification becomes obstruction.
It’s how they roll.
School should be optional. Let kids work and learn skills.
I don’t understand why ballot boxes are not individually and uniquely identified. We start with boxes 1-1000 (or whatever). The vote count isn’t finalized until we examine all the boxes 1-1000. If we only find 999 boxes, then we throw everything out.
This case seems to be a bit non-standard (for the reasons you specify) but in so many other elections, Democrats seem to go out to their car and return with a “found” ballot box that helps them reach the total they need — no one asks why we suddenly have 1001 ballot boxes.
How typical! That bond election has been a debacle since day one!
PING!
The gop-e needs to get some of those “missing boxes”.
They must use union labor for starters. That always increases the costs substantially.
Exactly. The chain of custody should have ensured that the votes were counted. It’s insane to consider including votes well after the fact. It’s obvious that somebody could just manufacture enough votes once knowing how far behind they are.
IOW, Business as Usual.
Found a “missing” ballot box, which will flip a vote to increase taxes? Suuuuuuuure they did!
Folks......
Read the story before commenting.

This is why people who say that elections should be run on the basis of hand counted paper ballots are insane.

So are you a Democrat?
Or do you have great faith in the computer based systems?
How are paper ballots WORSE than electronic voting systems? They paper is obviously more capable of being reliably tracked in a physical manner.
Just because some schmuckos don’t comply with the documented procedures doesn’t invalidate they system itself.
Paper ballots always get found in an ‘overlooked’ box somewhere afterwards. Electronic voting *with* paper receipts means totals are given instantly and there’s no way for Democrats to manufacture enough paper ballots to win. And if they need to be audited later, the paper receipt solves that problem too.
Paper ballots get you those hours and hours and hours of time for Dems to manufacture ballots while their buddies ‘count.’
It’s high time for education to be taught on-line.
Friday Night Votes
there’s a fine book called “The Secrets of the Hopewell Box” about Tennessee politics. Every election, the last ballot box to show up was from the Hopewell district outside of Nashville, and it always seemed to have JUST the right number of votes in it to swing the election.
One year someone checked the rolls and found the last 70 votes had been cast in alphabetical order.
and they say oil money fixes everything...
