E.T. is returning to Earth to reunite with his friend Elliot 37 years after the Steven Spielberg-directed film, E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, was released in 1982. Actor Henry Thomas reprises his role as Elliot alongside the alien character for Comcast’s new four-minute ad called “A Holiday Reunion.”

And the film’s fans were delighted to have seen some of their favorite scenes reenacted with E.T. and Elliot’s kids. From John Williams’ signature score to Reese’s Pieces and a Drew Barrymore-esque scream, the footage shows a revamped version of the beloved movie, including a modern take on the iconic bike scene, during which E.T. and the kids ride into the moonlight.

NBC playing the save Chewy Dog with the Darth Vader cat. Has a kid I guess that is suppose to look like Harrison Ford. Saw it a few times during football today

They keep doing ‘sequels’ and derivatives of old movies and movie ideas - of late, ‘they’ don’t seem to have any new ideas.

But I’d actually be interested in a sequel to ‘ET’ or ‘Close Encounters’ - as long as it had some of the brilliance of the originals.

We just don’t seem to have that kind of talent anymore; but, Who Knows?

People magazine: advertising advertisements...
What a way to make a living.

Cute, though.

I left the theater 37 years ago gobsmacked. A being comes to Earth, is feared and persecuted by the authorities, is loved and accepted by the children, performs miracles pf healing, and is finally captured and put to death. After a period, he is resurrected and ascends into the heavens.

The babblemutts were waxing ecstatic over the film’s originality and creativity. I was thinking what a transparent
ripoff I had just witnessed.

You know, I don’t care for sci fi/space/alien movies, but I love ET. It is very charming & has you cheering. Drew Barrymore was insanely adorable.

Hi, golux-!

I enjoyed it, as well.

Clean, wholesome, good family viewing.

It’s what FReepers say they want...all the time, grossing about not having anything a child and parent can watch.

It’s out of character for me to give kudos to Comcast....

That said, it was a well done commercial.

If I praise one side and the other side is good about something/an event, then it’s only correct to praise it for that bit of good that they do.

The uses of symbolism to Christianity and the story of Christ’s life on earth were what grabbed the hearts of many people back then. The story of Superman also borrowed from that same plotline.

I don’t know if it would work today on anyone who went through the public school system, where many teach kids to feel fear, disgust and doubt about any thing that is even faintly related to the Christian view of life.
Today’s “Hate Crime” laws almost do not allow free expression of these mores, unless it’s being done as a crude parody.

“I guess I am the only person on earth who thought that movie was awful.’

Heh. I like it when I saw it, but it was vastly overrated.

On the other hand, I’m halfway through another Spielberg film that I saw when it was released, and am very much enjoying again 34 years later: Back to the Future.

I agree with you about Tommy. The guy’s a good actor.

I gave up on the show, though, because there are no characters with redeeming values in it. I think I saw the first 3 seasons.

It ended in such a STUPID way.

and kept going too long. And there’s another season in January.

I really kept watching for Tommy. Just to see what INSANE thing he would do next.

Plus I heard thee Italians came in later and wanted to see how we were portrayed :)

3 seasons was enough

***E.T. is returning to Earth***

Didn’t they do this in SUPER 8 (2011), and the ET was grown up and not a happy camper.
