An Indian woman who was born with 19 toes and 12 fingers has revealed her cruel neighbours think she is a witch.

Kumar Nayak, 63, was born with the abnormality polydactyly, a genetic birth defect that caused her to have the extra digits.

She barely leaves her house in Ganjam, Odishi, because strangers have abused her for her abnormality, local reports say.

Ideally she would have had treatment years ago, but her family have never had the money.

Instead, Ms Nayak has learnt to live with the nasty comments and said she normally stays indoors to avoid it.

You don’t think people would notice her shoes were 2 to 3 time wider than normal,....likewise her gloves?

Probably with time & a close look they might notice, but not as quickly as walking around barefooted or in sandals.

I guess I'm not too observant, but if somebody is walking down the street, or if I have casual contact with them, I don't usually count their fingers & toes, especially if they are covered.

I think it emanates from a "there but by the grace of God go I" sentiment that manifests in other ways. I also believe, to be fair, many of us have physical problems - JimRob has had amputations, some of us are overweight - and wish other people could just "get in with it." If you ask me, 19 toes and 12 fingers is a little more of an issue than being 50lbs overweight.

I think it is also a sad testimony that society can be so "tolerant" of parents raising their 3-year old boy to be a girl, polygamy, etc...but someone with a physical defect is fair game for ridicule.
