Pinhole projection giving me nothing at all.
Last time I smoked glass black using a candle, sun was a dim yellow disk, we could see the black dot of Mercury on the face of the sun.
We did not stare, and the glass was very heavily smoked. Honestly, I don’t think there was danger, but no medical or astronomical authority endorses the method. Caution, good sense, at your own risk.
Looking at the online video, I can see why pinhole projection isn’t working. You can barely see a red dot on the orange sun.
Thanks. That Mercury is one God-forsaken flame-scorched rock. I’ll stick with the big blue marble.
Somehow, I never think of our sun as purple...

Flame-scorched it is BUT amazingly there is still surface ice in the deep craters. where the sun never reaches! WOW!

Not a single sun spot...
Tried to look this morning with my solar glasses, but,it was too early, and, now it’s clouding up and there are gale warnings for tomorrow.
just have to live with the internet.
I tried the pinhole projection technique in 2004 and 2012 for the transits of Venus with no luck...and Venus is much larger than Mercury (almost as large as Earth).
