The first College Football Playoff ranking of the season has Ohio State debuting at No. 1 for the first time ever in the Playoff era and defending national champion Clemson on the outside looking in at No. 5.

The Buckeyes are followed by No. 2 LSU and No. 3 Alabama, who have been ranked either first or second in the AP Poll for the last four weeks and will face each other in a blockbuster matchup on Saturday in Tuscaloosa.

What BS.

OSU and Penn State will not both be undefeated, same with Bama and LSU.

However, yes I am a Bama fan, but until Clemson loses, they are #1.

Bottom line: this CFP is mostly meaningless.

Isn’t college supposed to be about education? One of the few things I hate about this amazing best country in the world are so called “college athletics.”

Ohio State is aiming to go 11-0 in preseason exhibition games before the football season starts at noon on November 30.

The ACC is a joke. I would have ranked them lower.

Quite right. This line up will have to change as OSU plays Penn state in three weeks. My bet is, Clemson will be right back in it at the end.

Maybe, however Clemson won it all and has yet to be beaten, close but no cigar.

Until Clemson is knocked off the hill, they are the true #1.

I knew a moralist would show up on this thread to scold college football fans. Sorry you’re so bitter.

this CFP is mostly meaningless.

Certainly at this point they are. If you are in a Power 5 conference, being undefeated and winning your conference championship are the top 2 criteria. We know, between LSU and Alabama, only one survives. Between Penn State and Ohio State, only one survives (and maybe Minnesota beats them both out). Baylor is currently undefeated but must get past Oklahoma and Texas then a conference championship game. Clemson may be undefeated but they, too, must pass the gauntlet of a conference championship game.

All this really says is who played the toughest schedule.

Let's break this down. The final 4 will be:

1. The SEC champion
2. The Big 10 champion
3. Clemson if they stay undefeated.
4. The true wild card here. Choose between a one-loss SEC team, a one-loss Big 10 team, the Big XII champion (especially if it's an undefeated Baylor) or a one-loss Pac-12 Champion.

Throw in my own personal bias that, if it is close, the committee always favors the big schools with big fan bases which works against schools like Baylor and Utah and works for schools like Alabama, Ohio State and Oklahoma. If you've paid attention to who gets included and who doesn't, the committee wants name programs not gritty upstarts.

The big 10 is the joke. Pitt was throwing into the end zone to beat Penn st at the end of the game. But the media makes a big deal of Clemson have a tight game with UNC. Penn st is nothing more than a mid tier Acc team.

I just hate Penn State because of their sexual abuse stains. I thought the program should have been terminated.

The real national championship game is LSU - Bama.

As for the final four, at this point I’d call it Bama - Clemson - An Ohio state university - Baylor.

They need to expand they playoff system. they will destroy college football if they don’t. They need it least 8 possibly 16 team playoff. If not, within 5 years there will be the SEC and B1G and everyone else. It’s all about the money. the 4 playoff teams and their conferences have a growing advantage in recruiting and revenue. Bama and Clemson will siphon off all the 5 star talent because these kids have to play in the playoff to improve draft position and showcase skills. the PAC 12 is already closer to the AAC than to the BIG in talent level. Clemson is destroying its own conference also. Expand playoff and give out at least 8 BCS bids. Just my opinion. I’d be interested in hearing thoughts.

“I just hate Penn State because of their sexual abuse stains. I thought the program should have been terminated.”

So you thought a University and its’ football program (one of the best college programs in the nation) should be terminated because a former coach groomed and molested numerous young boys from broken homes who were part of his private charity (which still exists and was renamed, and part of an all encompassing homosexual pedophile sex ring) and a wonderful, winning coach and University was maligned by the media and used as a scapegoat to satisfy the “masses” and the “Media” while ignoring the political aspects and affiliates that actually committed those crimes?

Good to know.

You do know that the University, or should I point out the students/their parents/the taxpayers of PA, paid for all those lawsuits (and the one “eyewitness” account never had an actual victim but was the “face” of the media sensationalism slam)?

And we sometimes wonder why people are so stupid. Now we know. The same people who hate Penn State are similar to the people who hate Trump and believe all the lies the media continues to present as fact.

Have you wanted the US Olympics terminated because of the most recent sex scandal with US Gymnastics (? The many NCAA programs because of various scandals (https://bleacherreport.com/articles/1342175-college-basketball-power-ranking-the-20-scandals-that-rocked-the-cbb-universe#slide20)?

https://www.vanityfair.com/hollywood/2019/05/gymnastics-sex-abuse-scandal-documentary-interview-heart-of-gold?

Where’s the outrage?

LMAO!

WE ARE...PENN STATE. WE ARE...BACK. (And WE ARE...STILL PISSED OFF!).

Should we make a list?

Until you have an 8 team playoff this is just fantasy football.

Although it won’t please everybody, I envision four “superconferences” of 14 or 16 teams each in two divisions. The conference championship games will serve as de facto quarterfinals and the four conference champs will then advance to the playoffs. No committees. Everything is won and lost on the field.

The Big 10 already consists of Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Maryland, Michigan, Michigan St., Minnesota, Nebraska, Northwestern, Ohio St., Penn St., Purdue, Rutgers and Wisconsin.
(note: 14 teams leaving room for two more)

The SEC already consists of Alabama, Arkansas, Auburn, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, LSU, Mississippi, Mississippi St., Missouri, S. Carolina, Tennessee, Texas A&M and Vanderbilt.
(note: 14 teams leaving room for two more)

The ACC already consists of Boston College, Clemson, Duke, Florida St., Georgia Tech, Louisville, Miami (FL), N. Carolina, N. Carolina St., Pitt, Syracuse, Virginia, Virginia Tech and Wake Forest plus they have an existing arrangement with Notre Dame.
(note: 15 teams leaving room for one more)

The Pac-12 already consists of Arizona, Arizona St., Cal, Colorado, Oregon, Oregon St., Stanford, UCLA, USC, Utah, Washington and Washington St.
(note: 12 teams leaving room for four more)

All four of these conferences have tv deals with major broadcasters. The outcast is the 10-team Big XII and they are going to be split once Texas and Oklahoma leave for the Pac-12.

The Pac-12 will add Oklahoma, Oklahoma St., Texas and Texas Tech which will merge with Arizona, Arizona St., Colorado and Utah to form an “Eastern Conference”. The other 8 (the original Pac-8) will form the “Western Conference”.

The other schools cut adrift will try for the remaining open spots with Kansas likely going to the Big 10, West Virginia and Baylor or TCU heading to the SEC and the ACC adding a final school to reach 16 each.

All the other schools will be added to the AAC, Conference USA, the Sun Belt, Mountain West, MAC and WAC plus remaining independents to form a second tier which will eventually form their own playoff system and their own championship. Let’s face it: the power conferences were never going to let the lower conferences in on their big bonanza and the sooner everyone accepts that, the better for the likes of Boise State, UCF, Marshall and some of the other schools who may go undefeated yet never get the respect they truly deserve. Being in a strata where they have a reasonable goal beats the annual flogging of themselves hoping to be good enough to make the Power 4’s party.

The real losers, unfortunately, are former Big XII teams like Iowa St. and Kansas St. who may have to accept dropping down to the next level. Like I said, not everyone is going to be happy but there’s too much tv revenue for this not to eventually happen.
