People who take all of their blood-pressure medication in one go at bedtime are better able to control their condition and have a significantly lower risk of death or illness caused by heart or blood vessel problems compared to those who take their anti-hypertensive medication in the morning, according to research published this month in the peer-reviewed European Heart Journal.
The trial instructed 19,084 patients to take their pills on waking or at bedtime, and followed them for more than six years during which time the patients ambulatory blood pressure was checked over 48 hours at least once a year. The results were adjusted for age, gender, Type 2 diabetes, kidney disease, smoking and cholesterol levels.
The researchers found that patients who took their medication at bedtime reduced by 45% their risk of dying from or suffering heart attacks, myocardial infarction, stroke, heart failure or requiring a procedure to unblock narrowed arteries, compared to those who took their medication after waking up in the morning.
The risk of death from heart or blood vessel problems was reduced by 66%, the risk of myocardial infarction was reduced by 44%, coronary revascularization (unblocking narrowed arteries) by 40%, heart failure by 42%, and stroke by 49%. However, the researchers noted there are no studies showing that treating hypertension in the morning reduces the risk of cardiovascular disease.

No I don’t have one of those . That’s not the problem I have. It’s a low heart rate.
What about those like me who take them morn and eve? Sorry, didn’t read the whole thing, maybe it was in there... Just wondering.

Would that be a prostate ping?
Once in awhile, Ive checked FreeRepublic during the early morning hours if I get up for the facilities. I find I spend 30 minutes on FR before I got back to bed. Way too long if I have to work the next day.
My pleasure.
I tried the pill container thing with my mom, who was just starting to experience dementia at age 100, but she discovered it was fun to rearrange the pills in the cubes, to make pretty colored patterns and such, so we had to discontinue that.

I have to keep the cell phone near me on the bedstand so it’s really hard to avoid doing that. And for me, the 30 minutes turns into an hour and a half real quick.
I’ve been doing that since I started taking a baby aspirin a day, which was about 40 years ago.
That adds up to over 14600 aspirins (at 81 mg each, almost 3 pounds I think), kudos!
It's one of those terms that's both amusing and bemusing. :^)
Wow...JUST starting to get dementia at 100. What a wonderful long life. Heres to you and your mom!
My uncle passed earlier this year at 99. He was in great shape until about 92 or so.

Thank you, she actually passed away earlier this year as well, after breaking her hip and then deteriorating quickly. Regarding the dementia, psychometry actually picked up early signs at about 95, but her associates and retirement home staff didn’ t notice significant symptoms until later. Last year (summer of ‘18) she was still going for walks and shopping on her own.
Nice. We should all have such lives.
My uncle skied almost daily until he was 86 then did daily walks until about 94. He fell, but thank God never broke anything. Eyesight and hearing failures were the worst of it getting cut off like that is the worst.

Testosterone might be good for you unless of course you have a high PSA.
My doc has me on levothyroxine for not having a thyroid due to cancer. He never mentioned the two you are on. Why are you using them?
Pre hypertensive used to be called high normal.
