FLORENCE, S.C. – Former Vice President Joe Biden, a candidate for the Democratic nomination in the 2020 presidential race, was denied Holy Communion on Sunday morning at a Florence church.

Father Robert E. Morey of Saint Anthony Catholic Church confirmed Monday afternoon that he had denied the presidential candidate Holy Communion because of his stance on abortion. Biden, a lifelong Catholic, had attended the church's 9 a.m. Mass.

Communion is one of seven sacraments in the Roman Catholic Church. The others are baptism, reconciliation, confirmation, marriage, anointing of the sick and holy orders.

Say a prayer for this priest.

I would bet he is about to be hit with a mountain of Sh!t.

“One wonders if he would also be refused extreme unction.”

Wow! I might have encountered “extreme unction”...oh...maybe five times since the good old days of the 60s.

A classmate of mine’s father was denied as he was divorced, had remarried and to have yet squared things up with the Church rules.

Good on the Padre. My pastor denied communion a couple of times. Young guy and quite militant with respect to doctine. He is a regular guy...no squish meter goes off. Will tip some Yuenglings with you and is happy to show you the proper way to enjoy a cigar. He gives me hope for the Catholic clergy.

A good MAN.

Joe needs to find a church in San Francisco. They actually give communion to people like Nancy Pelosi. I’m sure she goes to the church of satan but from the outside they make it look like a real church.

Look up the definition of the term public sinner in Catholic doctrine.

Going to confession isn't good enough in some cases. Someone whose horrid sinfulness is such a public spectacle has an obligation to repudiate his sin in a public manner.

This isn't about a priest's "right" or "authority." It's all about his obligations -- both to the public sinner AND the rest of the flock who would be scandalized by any attempt to normalize the guy's sinfulness.

“We did it! We found one good priest.

There are actually a good number of GOOD and holy priests. Those who do not adhere to the serious teachings of the Church avoid holy priests as much as possible. Obviously, it has to be harder on the campaign trail for Mr. Biden to know for sure if the priests in particular churches are faithful or not(they usually attend if they know the priest is a dissident)....and there are fewer Catholic Churches in the south than elsewhere.....making it harder for out-of-towners to find the dissident priest.

More and more faithful Catholics are praying for our priests daily...and that commitment is growing. :-)

Pelosi has already been warned by the Bishop in her home area that she is NOT to present herself for Holy Communion...due to her stance on abortion. She hunts for parishes that have dissident priests.

You are wrong on so many counts.

The priest absolutely has the right and authority to keep the Body of Christ from being profaned. Biden openly supports abortion. I have not heard and neither have you heard any public statement from him that he has changed his mind or has heartily regretted supporting abortion in the past with his words and votes.

The priest by allowing Biden to receive the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ would be giving great scandal to the faithful

This really isn’t any time to cheer. This is a very sad situation. This is an extreme punishment to a Catholic. We believe in the Sacramental life. We need to pray for Joe Biden that he looks inward and really ponders why he was refused communion (and it is not politics). The priest is trying bring Joe Biden back into the fold by getting him to repent and be saved. I don’t think Joe Biden is going to be around much longer as he doesn’t look good, seems very confused and is worn out. We need to pray for old Joe and ourselves that we may be converted.

Wow, I realize I am 40 years out of it but I don’t remember anywhere in my Catholic instruction where public announcement and attornment of sins is required for absolution.

Now I seem to recall that the Catholic Church made an example out of Jackie O, they need to do the same for Biden, Pelosi, etc.

And maybe the right way is for the Priests that talk to the flock daily to take a stance is the way to get the Catholic Leadership off their ass.

Looks to me like the Catholic Flock have the same problems with their leadership as the Dem Flock.

Biden has said he supports codifying Roe. v. Wade – the 1973 Supreme Court decision that allows a pregnant woman to have an abortion without excessive government restriction – into statute but also said at a vice presidential debate in 2012 that he is personally opposed to abortion but does not want to impose that belief on others.

So, Biden is personally opposed to murder but does not want to impose that belief on others.

Yeah, this is the guy we need in the White House.

Any other subject Democrats are ready to impose their will on the public. But when it comes to murdering children in the womb they are all soft and mushy.

I’m Jewish, but it when I saw this earlier I thought I would like to attend Mass at that church.

(I wonder what Father Morey might have to say about Bergoglio.)
