DAVID LEE ROTH: 'VAN HALEN Is Finished'
Blabbermouth ^ | September 30, 2019 | N/A

David Lee Roth says that VAN HALEN is "finished."

The singer made the comment while speaking to Meltdown of the Detroit radio station WRIF about his upcoming Las Vegas residency, which is due to kick off in January.

Asked if he was "bummed out" that he couldn't tour with VAN HALEN this past summer, as had been rumored several months ago, Roth responded: "That's been canceled a number of times, and I think VAN HALEN's finished and this is the next phase. I've inherited the band de facto — whatever that means. I think it means if you inherit it, carry this proudly. VAN HALEN isn't gonna be coming back in the fashion that you know. And that being said, Eddie's [Van Halen] got his own story to tell. [It's] not mine to tell it."

Roth's latest comments echo those he made earlier in the month when he told the Phoenix radio station KSLX that he was "the face of VAN HALEN from this point on, most likely. I'm not sure what's happening with Ed, but he's probably not gonna answer the bell this time," he said. "And it's not my place to guess."

Asked if he was implying that Eddie Van Halen had been dealing with some health issues as of late, Roth replied: "I hear all the same rumors that you do and it's not my place to guess."

Cool story. Did not know that. Think I might have had that Tequila once. Almost like a Scotch ?

Sammy says there was animosity because he always wanted to write songs about love. He said, that’s what it’s all about.

The Van Halen’s were great musicians. Eddie, one of the best ever. David Lee Roth was a fantastic front man. He was a natural showman. The combination clicked to make a great band during the late 70’s/early 80’s but they would never recapture that era.

I saw Van Halen very early on, they were an opening act at a show I saw. (They were not yet huge.) I don’t even remember who the main attraction was that night. When VH finished their set, Roth invited the entire audience to their hotel for a big blowout. LOL. The hotel was pissed, the main band was pissed I’m sure, but many showgoers went there and had a great time until the hotel had enough and ended the party, which had spread to the lobby, parking lot, and beyond. :)

DLR shows some humility and little class.
Good on ya, Diamond Dave.

Eddie is addled, there is a video clip of an interview on a TV show where he insisted that he invented the process of dipping his pick up in wax to help control microphonics. Which is a lie! Pickups were being dipped in wax to control microphonics back in the 50s before Eddie was even born. I was kind of shocked when he made that insistent claim but knew at that point that Eddie Van Halen is Bald Faced liar.

He’s a groundbreaking guitarist, but a liar regarding any inovation he might’ve made regarding the technology of pickup design and manufacture.

The first run of Roth was good, the run with Hagar was good, then everything after Hagar was just an attempt to stay alive.

Although I like some of their early stuff with Roth, I always thought it was a poor idea to name the band after two of the musicians, instead of their stand out singer or an insect or inanimate object. At least The Allman Bros. did their own singing. When they decided to play backup for Sammy Hagger...they lost me.

Their live show in the early 80s was something else. The band was white hot back then.

However, there was ditches along the way... Drum and bass solos = bathroom break. Dave bringing the band down to rap to the audience = buzz kill.

Guitar solo spots aren't my cup of tea but Eddie's was always worth the price of admission. Zappa once thank Eddie for reinventing the guitar and FZ was right. I wish Eddie good health and peace because he doesn't sound well.

It's also worth noting that wth all of that fame and air time, Van Halen NEVER got political. I love it when they shut up n sing. Even Uncle Ted...I'm with you but please just play Stranglehold.

Yeah, it comes in Blanco, Reposado, and Anejo. It's a smooth sip, easy on the palate and the nose. Hagar sold most of his interest off to Campari America, but keeps his status as a minority stockholder to make sure they don't try to jigger with the ingredients or distilling process. He seems to concentrate on his Cabo Wabo restaurant chain and Beach Bar rum these days. And agian, yeah, Hagar's lyrics were always like some love letter to an imaginary girlfriend, and it was wearing thin with the band. Roth compared the two of them by saying, "Sammy's the kind of guy who goes out with a friend and splits a bottle. I'm the kind of guy who goes out and splits a friend with the bottle." LOLOL
