Sometimes, when a news story is still unfolding in real time, we cant do much better than to hazard a guess about how it will affect the polls. Of course, we can also not hazard a guess that is, we can not say anything about it at all. But given that I wrote yesterday about public opinion surrounding the impeachment of President Trump, this is one time when I think its worth weighing in on the latest development; namely, the White Houses decision to release, on Wednesday, Trumps reconstructed conversation (note: not a verbatim transcript) with Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky.
This conversation seems to have triggered a nearly Yanny or Laurel-like reaction in my Twitter feed, almost as though people are seeing and hearing two different things. Everyone either seems to think its either really bad for Trump, or not very damaging at all, with few people landing in between.

If it were a recording from the Ukraine web site, it might mean something. But you KNOW they’ll pass it off as locker room bluster like mines bigger kind of crap to show how bad ass you are. Kind of like his claim of putting ‘corn pop’ and his posse in their place back in the day. “Take ‘em out behind the gym!” BS. “Fire that shotgun in the air from the balcony!” Riding the blusterville express. :-)
That could well be an accurate count of the RINO coalition that has been sandbagging Trump or quietly working against him during his term. Murphy would know if these guys were playing for the other team.
Oh of course. You’ll never convince the fools.
I mean Democrats. But it’s still good to get Joe’s words out there. Joe’s words are always fun.
[Big media calls this unsubstantiated.]
Of course. The one substantiating Joe Biden’s crime of influence-peddling is -— Joe Biden.
Never believe what Joe Biden said about Joe Biden. /Liberal Media
Joe Biden can’t be trusted, obviously.
Fivethirtyeight...well that says it all. Desperation on open display.
He looks like a fat Pud...
He predicted Obama’s first win correctly and has been coasting on his own coat tails ever since.
Mr. Nate “95% Hillary” Silver.
Living off of a reputation. Yawn.
Hahah 538, the place that said Hillary’s odds of winning in 16 were what? 90%+ on election day?
On election night, it was hysterical how Silver had to keep downgrading Hillary’s chances.
What ever happened to Bagdad Bob?
I always felt bad for him.
He was the ultimate salesman.
I would have hired him. He could sell anything.
I was wondering about that myself. His Wiki page doesn't say. I was a little surprised to learn that he has a degree in mining engineering from the University of Arizona. Apparently we arrested him, questioned him, and let him go. Poor guy missed his calling - he could have made a fortune making TV commercials for used car dealers.
Hillary Clinton 302.2
Donald Trump 235.0
Evan McMullin 0.8
Gary Johnson 0.0
It isn’t “Trump’s” reconstruction. It is the standard transcript done for presidential phone calls, by two people well-trained in listening to conversations, taking notes, and recreating the conversations.
Nate Silver is a putz... he’s a partisan pundit that tries to pretend he’s a statistician...
538 is fine for things like sports, but WORTHLESS when it comes to politics.
Attempting to use math to justify your punditry is not science, or statistics.
