“...delivered a lethal strike to a varicose vein in her leg....”

Damn... one in a million shot.

Maybe wearing snake boots or some other leg protection would be a good idea (don’t know, as I’ve never been around the critters)...

Headline is misleading. The actual incident was that the rooster kept pecking the woman’s varicose veins, and eventually caused her to bleed. She was then unable to stop the bleeding (apparently, she waited too long, was elderly and therefore may have been on thinners and had cognitive impairment).

"Keep those spurs trimmed is one of thr major must of Chicken husbandry."

Yeah, daughter has a small hobby farm. You know the e-i-e-i-o type. Had chickens. Had is the operative word after rooster attacked the then four year old grandson.

I’ve been attacked by a rooster. They can rear their heads back and peck devastatingly - he got me in the knee, put a nice divot in my scalp, and barely missed poking an eye out. Both ends can be dangerous.

I’m currently chicken-less, but have raised HUNDREDS of chickens through the years for fun and profit.

Nothing more satisfying than culling a rooster. I’ve NEVER met a nice one. Ever.

Some are absolutely beautiful, but EVIL. ;)

Government would LOVVVE to outlaw the keeping of livestock by Americans. The control of food is control of LIFE. And they will do it all in the name of "safety".

BTW, I was flogged by a rooster at age 10, and I am still alive. In my 50s now.

This is very sad. Be careful around roosters.

The article states that this is an aggressive rooster so this is how I imagine it happened.

The rooster struck high on the woman; chest high or higher.

The startled woman stumbled backward and lost her balance and fell.

This made it easier for the rooster to strike

Once the rooster drew blood and the woman relatively immobile the attack would become relentless.

If you are just raising chickens for eggs it does not pay to keep an aggressive rooster. They are more pain than they are worth
