Headline is misleading. The actual incident was that the rooster kept pecking the woman’s varicose veins, and eventually caused her to bleed. She was then unable to stop the bleeding (apparently, she waited too long, was elderly and therefore may have been on thinners and had cognitive impairment).
The rooster struck high on the woman; chest high or higher.
The startled woman stumbled backward and lost her balance and fell.
This made it easier for the rooster to strike
Once the rooster drew blood and the woman relatively immobile the attack would become relentless.
If you are just raising chickens for eggs it does not pay to keep an aggressive rooster. They are more pain than they are worth
