Dave Chappelle ‘Sticks & Stones’: Why I’m not allowed to say f*ggot but allowed to say N-word?
Stick and Stones Special

Posted on 09/04/2019 6:17:35 AM PDT by Bigtigermike

So she sits me down. We have a nice conversation. She tells me, “Oh, the sketches are great.” I go, “Oh, fantastic. Well, then… well, then, why am I here?” She said, “Because, David, there’s no way… that you can ever say the word… “f*ggot” on our network.

I didn’t know I did anything wrong. I didn’t try to defend myself. I said, “All right. F*** it, I’ll take it out. Have a good afternoon.”

And as I was leaving, it occurred to me. “Hey. Hey, Renée, quick question. It’s just a question. Seriously, I wanna know. Like, wh-why is it… why is it that… that I can say the word “n*gger” with impunity… …but I can’t say the word “f*ggot”?”

And she said, “Because, David, you are not gay.” I said, “Well, Renée… I’m not a n*gger either.”

But, you see, what I didn’t realize at the time and what Kevin [Hart] had to learn the hard way is we were breaking an unwritten and unspoken rule of show business. And if I say it, you’ll know that I’m telling you the truth.

The rule is that no matter what you do in your artistic expression, you are never, ever, allowed to upset… the alphabet people. You know who I mean. Those people that took 20% of the alphabet for themselves. I’d say the letters, but I don’t want to conjure their anger. Ah, it’s too late now. I’m talking about them L’s and them B’s and them G’s and the T’s.

The difference there is, instead of seeking a way to get high, you should just say no, since you, like every non addict, severely underestimates addiction.

The opioid bit grew because of over prescribing pain killers to people, not looking to get high, but seeking to treat a medical problem.

So that’d be like “just saying no” to your surgery.

‘Loved the opening comparing Anthony Bordain (sp?) to his law school now Foot Locker buddy.

I watched the beginning of his special - his contrast of Anthony Bourdain and his attorney friend was great.

I also think the drug comparison is fair; sure, "just say no" wasn't focused on any particular race and the big problems in the 1980s were crack and coke, but it's still a good point.

Then Chappelle went into his Michael Jackson bit and I turned off the show. Really? We are going to condone pederasty now? Would he say the same thing about Jerry Sandusky's victims?

I'm all for humor that not only makes us laugh but turns a mirror on us to reveal stupidity and make us think. And words aren't knives. But the MJ bit crossed the line...buh bye.

“LGBQT ... and so on”? Just stick with “Q” in its original sense (weird, strange, unusual, odd) and leave it at that. It certainly fits. “F***ed up in the head” (FUITH) could work too.

I love Dave but I’ll treat his great question with the unvarnished TRUFF:

We’ve degenerated into cultural Balkanism, in which actions done by one group are okay but but evil if done by other groups: There are a hundred different versions of that same thing, other than just the Enn Word:

Slowing down in crosswalks, staring inexplicably at passing cars, standing shirtless on the corner outside Gas N Sip at 3 am, chronic shoplifting, prolific & needless swearing, spreading sexual disease, impregnating women without any intention of supporting them:

All behavior expected of black dudes, stuff we’re supposed to put up with but not from anyone else.

And YOU guys claim that casually using that word to reference one another stands as an affirmation of “the authentic black male experience in today’s America”.

You use it all the time. Very many songs use the word and a portion of those songs use it very many times. Hollywood companies heavily promote men like you to do that in public in front of many thousands of impressionable young people.

It’s okay for YOU to use that word because YOU say it is, you have bent Heaven & earth to use it and honkies virtue signaled by doing NOTHING to stop you.

Meanwhile you can’t use faggot because to their credit faggots used force and guilt-shaming to impose their basic standards on you and everyone else.

THAT is why.

My son told me the left is calling Chappelle a white supremacist now. We watched the show and I still don’t know why! Because he’s an equal opportunity comedian? I think he’s brilliant.

I don’t have to agree with him about things to appreciate his humor.

But the MJ bit crossed the line.

That was the intention. In fact the whole show was about “crossing the line” and attacking sacred PC cows.

I have 2 FB sites. My daughter set up one for me and my godchild in VN set up the other and
they demanded I use them, so I do. One is my Vietnamese name, the other is my born name. On both sites I post in Vietnamese, all the time on the VN name site, only sometimes on the other. FB banned the American name site for three days because I was using Vietnamese. Now I get a 24 hour ban every time I post in VN. My readers read it okay, they don’t shadow it but FB shuts me down for 3 days.

I get a codone scrip before I go to Việt Nam. The first one 16 years ago because I had not yet figured out what triggered my migraines. Now I take them to a local doctor (American trained guy) who doles them out one at a time to his patients. They have to go back to him each time for each. I do the same thing with antibiotics.

If I understand correctly:

Were whites genuinely sensitive to blacks, whites would step in and use force —firing, harassment, shaming, negative publicity— to STOP black men from referring to one another with The Enn Word..?

Let’s say opioid use is disproportionate among poor white Appalachians:

Are blacks guilty of a moral tort or some type of racial prejudice by not stepping in and actively STOPPING white opioid abuse..?

Of course not.

Blacks have claimed that certain language norms do not apply to them and owing to a new lack of Cultural Confidence, this claim has been INDULGED.

It was funny as hell.

“Are you that f***** n***** from Empire?”
No white guy’s going to say that.
That doesn’t sound like something a white guy would say.
It sounds like something...THAT I WOULD SAY!

The whole audience was on the floor laughing at that line.

Yes, as long as you are referring to a “bundle of sticks” or “one who nigs”.

A wise policy. If you ever get in trouble with it, there are many places to turn for help.

Ace had a good write-up of this yesterday. He noted that this show got a 0% rating from “critics” at Rotten Tomatoes but a 99% audience score. He thought it was a funny act - not the funniest but not the worst either but that it was important because it reminded them of times when all comics used to speak unspeakable truths.

DOH!!

I liked him WAY BACK as “Achoo”, son of “Asneeze” in “Robin Hood: Men in Tights” :)

So a black can call another black a nigger but if a white calls the same black man the same word, it’s considered hate speech. This needs to be fixed, one way or the other.
