Urging people to follow low-fat diets and to lower their cholesterol is having disastrous health consequences, a health charity has warned.
In a damning report that accuses major public health bodies of colluding with the food industry, the National Obesity Forum and the Public Health Collaboration call for a major overhaul of current dietary guidelines. They say the focus on low-fat diets is failing to address Britains obesity crisis, while snacking between meals is making people fat.
Instead, they call for a return to whole foods such as meat, fish and dairy, as well as high-fat, healthy foods including avocados, arguing: Eating fat does not make you fat.
The report which has caused a huge backlash among the scientific community also argues that saturated fat does not cause heart disease while full-fat dairy, including milk, yoghurt and cheese, can actually protect the heart.
Processed foods labelled low fat, lite, low cholesterol or proven to lower cholesterol should be avoided at all costs, and people with type 2 diabetes should eat a fat-rich diet rather than one based on carbohydrates...

Statins will eventually be found to have caused more harm than good.
Eat real, unprocessed foods as much as possible in reasonable caloric amounts -- natural fat, both plant- and animal-based, is an important component of this diet.
Stay away from sugar.
That is all.
It's not rocket science.

Cholesterol is only a single number that means nothing on its own. Triglycerides, blood pressure, obesity, sedentary lifestyle, smoking, drug use, and genetics are what really matter.
Its also about metabolism and what you eat does impact your metabolism. Not all calories are the same.
As is the processed carb business.

So you are saying (from 2009 numbers) Bangladesh, Burundi, Democratic Republic of the Congoat all above 80% calories from carbohydrates live longer than Israel, Italy, Spain, the US, Netherlands, Switzerland, and Samoa (which are all under 50% calories from carbohydrates)?
You are so wrong, I am surprised you know how to breathe!

Yep. Big Food and Big Pharma want you eating carbs. Its good for business.
Yeah, just like the standard american diet recommendations, keep believing that foolishness.
Well, you are incorrect in thinking keto means no carbs. Keto recommendation is <20g net carbs a day.
No carb gets you into carnivore land. And there are some people on that WOE that are thriving.
I think one of the reasons our young kids are having so many problems (ADD, ADHD, etc.) is due to the high consumption of carbs.
Please add me to your list. I’ve been playing around with Keto for a bit. I need encouragement to stick to it. A good source of info about Keto is Maria Emmerich and her mind, body, health website. She has been doing Keto for 20 years.
That subject is covered in The Magic Pill.
My stats on lower carb dash diet: LDL at less than 60 while increasing HDL, maintain weight loss of 25 lbs for past 2 years staying at normal weight for height, blood pressure levels systolic down from 150’s to 110 or lower. Recent results of nuclear stress test 2 years after heart attack puts my heart among healthiest men my age.
Diet easy to maintain for past 2 years. Past experience with keto diets is hard after several months.
bkmk
Lol! Similar to my go-to for sweet craving. Whip up just heavy whipping cream, swerve powdered, and cocoa. Plain or on my berries.
Also. 8 bacon slices, 1lb Brussels sprouts, blanched and halved,1 cup shredded Swiss cheese, 3/4 cup heavy whipping cream. Oven 400. Bacon grease to line casserole dish. Bake 20 minutes. OMG.
I looked at going Carnivore, but it seems too difficult to do it right and still get in all the nutrients.
How is a keto diet hard to maintain? Biggest fallacy there is.
And you just admitted you are low carb. Low carb is resulting in your improved stats.
I have not watched yet. I wish the first prescription, with support, would be “remove the carbs and here is what carbs are...”
Organ meats...
Sugar and simple carbohydrates are the real culprits behind obesity. Not fat. The only problem with fat is that it tends to be high calorie, but 1000 calories of fat is not as bad for you as 1000 calories of sugar or simple carbs. You don’t want to start eating 10 slices of bacon at every meal, but fat was never the problem. Neither was cholesterol consumption.
Don’t take in too many calories. Avoid sugar and simple carbs. That is really the only guideline you need. And eat your fruit and veggies.
