His mom had told him not to ride on the autobahn
(Newser) An 8-year-old boy got a stern talking-to earlier this week when he took his mom's Volkswagen for a joyride on the German autobahn, but after pulling the stunt againhitting speeds 112 mphhe's been put into psychological counselling, the AP reports. Dortmund police said Friday the grade-schooler stole the keys to the Golf around midnight and drove from his hometown Soest to Dortmund, about 30 miles away. Police say another motorist reported the child driving at high speeds in the city, saying "red lights and driving regulations did not seem to interest" him. As police searched for the vehicle, the boy drove out of town and crashed into the rear of a parked truck at a rest stop. Nobody was injured but the Golf was badly damaged.
If he claimed he did because he wants to be a girl they couldn't do that.
112 mph in a Volkswagen . . .?
is like going 350 mph in a Porsche.
Vey is mir!
When I was 11 my parents went on a cruse, leaving me and my brother alone with our grandmother for 10 days.
Every day when they were gone we ‘stole’ my dads 61 VW to do our pre-dawn paper routes.
The only scary time was going to get gas at 4:30 in the morning....when you are 11, and paying with quarters...
Good times...
Psychopaths do not experience fear.
Good point.
This kid may not have experienced any emotion. Fear or excitement.
He was bored maybe. This was something to do.
Heh... VW actually had a Golf GTI ad that was based on “Speed Racer” back in the ‘90s.
He’s a little young for the speed ditty, isn’t he?
“I feel the need, the need for SPEED!”
“...he’s been put into psychological counseling...”??
What this kid needs is the psychological counseling I would have gotten from my dad: Lump therapy.
VW and Porsche are part of the same company. ;)
Modern VWs can scoot.
That curious element in a male's life must be erased. No one can be curious in the 21st century. It may lead to thinking.
halten Sie mein Bier und beobachten Sie dies
Almost all Golfs have a top speed over 112 mph, some by a considerable margin

I don’t know of a VW that is street legal that can go 112 mph. They are in the act of designing cars that will exceed that but are saying they will be on the market no earlier than 2025.

Yes. Find a way to channel it. It is not going away, and it is not necessarily some sort of psychological illness.
Yup..agree..he has a talent. Tap it now while he’s young.
“Harder to believe a Golf could go that fast.”
i was thinking that too ...
According to a couple of articles in the German press, the boy said he felt uncomfortable going 140 km/hr, so he pulled into a rest area, turned on the four-way flashers, and put out a warning triangle. No crash, no damage.
Seriously? My little base Jetta with a 1.5 turbo can do 112 miles an hour. See the link in post 16.
Volkswagens are fast.
The first time I ever drove 100MPH was on the Autobahn in a VW Golf. I hit 125 MPH before it started to shake.
iI wasnt just eight years old Probably twenty one.
