it insists they are only activated in “extreme circumstances”...

That’ll last long!! :)

There was speculation that that writer who said things were getting sticky and he had to go away and ended up dying in his car, some said that it was controlled by smart technology in the car.

That’s the WORST sentence anyone has ever written :)

This is old school technology.

Some subprime lenders do this in an effort to finance cars to deadbeats.

I’m surprised Mercedes is doing this.

Is this new? GM On*Star, Chrysler UConnect, Ford Remote Access all can do the same thing.

A block of C4 would be easier. Plus, nobody would follow a Mercedes closely from then on.

I’ll probably be scorched for this, but I’ve always considered Benz products to be glorified Volkswagens. It’s a name and an emblem; and the only claim to fame a bunch of people have is that they went into hock for the imagined glory. I wish them happiness. An old philosopher once said, “ Only the man who doesn’t “need” anything is truly rich.

In my initial remarks, I failed to mention that once you become the “owner” of a Benz product, there is a maintenance schedule which dictates at what mileage level they will start replacing parts and skinning you alive for the required devices. You are expected to hold still for this, in exchange for the prestige and glory.

Lol. German over-engineering. Aside from the old air-cooled Beetles which were simple to work on, Mercedes, VWs and Audis are overly complex money pits now. You need the tracking devices so the tow trucks can find them.

If 6 bolts to hold something on are more than sufficient the Germans will use 12. To work on one thing you need to first remove 6 other things. No thanks. No more over-rated problematic German Autos for me.

The last good MB made was the W126. I have two of them. 1990SEL and a 1988SEC. They never need anything but a lot of fuel.
