I’ll probably be scorched for this, but I’ve always considered Benz products to be glorified Volkswagens. It’s a name and an emblem; and the only claim to fame a bunch of people have is that they went into hock for the imagined glory. I wish them happiness. An old philosopher once said, “ Only the man who doesn’t “need” anything is truly rich.

I think you’ve confused MB with Audi.
VW and Audi (and some Porsches) share a lot of parts. I’ve bought parts for my daughter’s VW Jetta at the Porsche dealer. Funny thing though—Porsche counter guys refuse to look up VW parts so you must have the part number!
I’ve worked on both and a lot of other things too. MBs are really nice to DIY. VW, not so much. Everything under the VW hood is made from plastic which crumbles when it ages. I swear the parts cost more than MB too.
And Cadillacs are glorified Chevys.
