The absurdity of the “faked Apollo moon landing” conspiracy theories
American Thinker ^ | 07/21/2019 | Michael Nollet

Posted on 07/21/2019 7:36:51 PM PDT by SeekAndFind

Our nation yesterday rightly treated itself to a celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Apollo moon landing. Vice President Pence summed it up this way: "This may be the only event of the 20th century that will be remembered in the 30th.

But it wasn’t celebrated by everybody. Even for an event like this, there are conspiracy theorists. They claim that the Apollo program never happened, that it was all faked by the United States government, as in the movie Capricorn-1. ExamplesSome conspiracy theorists talk about the fluttering in the flag planted by Buzz Aldrin. (Explanation: it was vibrations in the wires holding it, after Aldrin pounded it into the regolith.) Others object to the lack of stars in the photos taken from the Moon’s surface (Explanation: the Moon’s surface was so bright, a quick f-stop exposure time on the camera was needed.) Footprints on the moon would require moisture, right? (No, they wouldn’t.) Trivial objections are raised to “prove” that the mission was faked, and the debunking explanations are ignored.

Buzz Aldrin once had to punch out a heckler calling him a liar who had participated in a faked Apollo mission.

What can one say? It is reminiscent of the Roman Catholic Church’s doctrine of studied or affected Vincible Ignorance, meaning stubborn resistance to the truth and refusal to accept it, no matter how overwhelming the evidence in its favor is.

This writer personally saw the Apollo 11 Saturn V rocket a month before it launched from Cape Kennedy. It was part of a guided tour given to NROTC midshipmen doing their summer training cruises. So there the rocket was, as tall as a football field is long including the end zones. Let’s suppose it was a fake, that it was a plywood fabrication.

If the moon landing WAS faked, there were 400,00+ people in on the fraud. You would have thought that someone would have leaked solid proof that it was faked somewhere along the line in the past fifty years. Nobody has.

Although i don’t believe it was faked. It was the most disappointing event long term. The money spent produced very little and to this day there is not much going on spacewise. or maybe that was the benefit. space the final frontier insurmountable.

I read that the computer technology then was no more powerful than a smartphone today. If this moon landing is really real, it is the equivalent of Magellan circumnavigating the globe.

Grandpa insisted they were fake.

There’s not a single piece of “evidence” that the conspiracy theorists have that isn’t based on sheer ignorance of science or how things work. It’s all so easily debunked, yet they persist. They could easily find the answer for any one of the things they consider suspicious, but they don’t even try.

HAD to punch out a "heckler?" I know the story from Buzz himself. The guy was in his face and he CHOSE to cold-cock the bitch. This is a crappy, self-serving piece of writing but it is a worthy post. The moon-landing conspiracy people will never talk about one thing in particular: multiple research labs private and public still bounce lasers off reflectors we placed there so many years ago.

Are you kidding? NASA's work launched a jaw-dropping amount of mechanical, military, scientific and technological advancements... Including but hardly limited to the thing you were just typing on. And more! Climatological, propagational, navigational, communications... It never ends. Check it out, FRiend!

Much less so, in fact. If you look at some of the archival footage that's been on TV lately, you see most of the engineers doing calculations of orbital mechanics using pencil, paper and slide rule.

As to technological advances to come from the space program, don't get me started. The PC you are typing on, the smartphone you use to be in touch with the world 24/7 and the fact that many "major" surgeries from 30 years ago are now done on an outpatient basis are just a few things that are an outgrowth of manned space flight.

The fact that no one, even us, has been able to repeat the feat in 50 years is proof we didn’t do it. That was put forward to me by a friend, who is definitely NOT a moon landing conspiracy nut, as the most convincing argument the nuts could possibly make. Of course, the REASON we didn’t do it again is NOT because it was impossible, but because we had little interest in doing it again.

I'm not doubting that at all. I'm saying the voyage to the moon itself is a technological feat on its own. Those computers then is what Atari 2600 is to the Xbox One now.

It’s no different than the flat earth people, or the people who think the WTC buildings were dropped by explosive charges placed within them by the Bush administration.

No amount of evidence will “convince” them, if they actually believe what they say, which is doubtful in many cases.

Conspiracy theories can pay good money in the internet age.

Some people are incapable of believing anything unusual happens. When someone unusual happens, good or bad, they simply conclude that it was faked. So they believe the moon landing is fake, 9/11 is fake, the Challenge Disaster is fake, etc.

That, too, is my kill-shot in these debates.

...well, that and the fact that the Soviet Union would be the FIRST to tell the world that their antenna are picking up NO signals from the Moon and the whole thing is a capitalist, pig-dog sham.
