Absolutely not true. The space program cost about one penny of every tax dollar paid. For that you received improvements in computers, a rapidly developing IC environment, heart telemetry, advancements in materials, introduction of new communications, among many others

Not even as powerful. The computer was 4K if memory on an eight bit chip

Heres the kill shot. Get a good telescope. Spot the remainder of the LM still on the moon...also the flag of the US

you know what?....I've come to distrust everything out of the mouths of the media and the govt that I will not categorically dismiss any theories.....in the moon landing, I have no idea what the conspiracy theories are nor do I wish to know, but they are no more "out there" then having grown men use the little girls rooms....
I mean, the world is THAT crazy....
we have seen with our own eyes and heard with our own ears how the media can distort anything at all, or not report something, or completely change any event to fit their narrative...

The Space program enjoyed about a &:1 payback in technological gains.
Think about it the next time you use styrofoam.

You know why I believe the moon landings are real? Because Walter Cronkite believed they were.
If he suspected they were fake, he, Dan Rather, and CBS news would have done everything they could have uncover the phony program to discredit President Nixon.
I'm no great fan of CBS News, and no doubt Cronkite had his agenda. But certainly they would have uncovered a faked moon landing among the 400,000 or so people involved in the space flight program of NASA.

li>I read that the computer technology then was no more powerful than a smartphone today. If this moon landing is really real, it is the equivalent of Magellan circumnavigating the globe.
No, the average smartphone today could manage 200,000 moon trips without batting an eye lash. The Apollo 11 astronauts had to manually program in every program in machine language and not make a mistake. . . entering it in hexadecimal code, each time they needed it. IIRC, the onboard computer had 4k of RAM. . . and no storage. Watch the movie Apollo 11 on Amazon Prime. It covers this.

Yeah, but theres no convection of that surface heat below the surface to any appreciable depth. If its in shadow, its not heated.

Flight computer ROM memory hand wired (programmed) thru ferrite cores! (By “Girls”...non-politically correct references to employees by the tour guide at Raytheon)...great video on the Apollo computer:

A commodore Vic 20 had a hundred times the computing power the Apollo 11 flight had on board.

li>The fact that no one, even us, has been able to repeat the feat in 50 years is proof we didnt do it. That was put forward to me by a friend, who is definitely NOT a moon landing conspiracy nut, as the most convincing argument the nuts could possibly make. Of course, the REASON we didnt do it again is NOT because it was impossible, but because we had little interest in doing it again.
We didnt go back because the Democrats were in the ascendancy, and Nixon was embattled, and the Liberals defunded NASA and manned space exploration to spend money on earth instead of throwing it away in space. I know of no money shot into space. . . but that was the rhetoric. By the time Reagan got into office, the infrastructure was gone.

Most of the flat earth nonsense (including the celebrities) is people playing dumb on the internet (like ‘imma eat a tide pod now, nom nom nom’ and the plan to ‘storm’ area 51).
But the 9-11 truthers are special breed of haters just as the Holocaust deniers are.

Moonwalker Charlie Duke said much the same thing -- why fake it so many times if it were just a fake? Humans visited lunar orbit (and sometimes more) nine times -- Apollo 8, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, and 17.

Sad to see the ignorance and lack of critical thinking here on FR.
Apollo is man's greatest achievement to date. The ingenuity and will of the human mind and spirit is embodied in it.

There were 6 manned landings so 5 returns after Apollo 11. Essentially I see the hoax claim as an anti American thing. It would be interesting to see the political breakdown of hoax believers. My guess would be heavy dim and those dims who do think the landings happened think it was a racist enterprise like the NY slimes recently opined.

IF they were faked then Russia, China, UK, France and any other country with satellite capability or radar capability would have been able to monitor the flight of Apollo 11 and call the US on the claim.
IF it were faked it's the biggest conspiracy theory ever.

Yep - all the news agencies would have had to have been co-opted...then, there’s them pesky reflectors up there (3 from manned missions and 2 from other vehicles) which says “Kilroy was there” every time a laser is reflected off it...
