The Weekly Gardening Thread is a weekly gathering of folks that love soil, seeds and plants of all kinds. From complete newbies that are looking to start that first potted plant, to gardeners with some acreage, to Master Gardener level and beyond, we would love to hear from you.
If you have specific question about a plant/problem you are having, please remember to state the Growing Zone where you are located.
This thread is non-political, although you will find that most here are conservative folks. No matter what, you wont be flamed and the only dumb question is the one that isnt asked.
It is impossible to hijack the Weekly Gardening Thread. Planting, Harvest to Table Recipes, Preserving, Good Living - there is no telling where it will go and... that is part of the fun and interest. Jump in and join us!
NOTE: This is a once a week ping list. We do post to the thread during the week. Links to related articles and discussions which might be of interest to Gardeners are welcomed any time!
Summer weather has finally arrived here in Central Missouri. We’ve gone a whole week without rain, and are enjoying daytime high temps in the 90s.
I started digging garlic last week, but it was too stinking hot to suit me, so I stopped. Staying ahead of the japanese beetles is impossible. I kill ten million, and ten million more pop out of thin air.
My garden is a giant weed patch right now and I’m not the least bit motivated to do anything about it. I had intended to switch over to raised beds for this season, but the ridiculously wet spring prevented that from happening. Mrs. Augie insisted on cucumbers and tomatoes so I put some in for her, but she’s not very interested in pulling weeds either. lol
Next year will be better.
That guy is doing it right! Great production!
Here is one, 9 Best Garden Twine

*TESTING CLEANED-UP GARDEN THREAD PING LIST*
*THIS IS ONLY A TEST*
I started looking up ALL of the hundreds of names on the Ping List, and then decided that was kind of fruitless! I went through all of our threads since I took over for Greeneyes, and it'll be a heckofalot easier to ADD people that want to join us, than to keep pinging people that aren't interested, anyway. ANY Freeper can join our list just by messaging Diana in Wisconsin. :) I kept a full copy of the original list; some Freepers hadn't posted anything, anywhere since 2008!
As always, all Constructive Criticism will be considered. The new list is 'pretty much' alphabetical, Albion Wilde, LOL!
Your pictures are beautiful, inspirational, and that garlic, heavenly!!
Yes. But just for comedic relief when we get too wrapped around the axle over garden pests, the weather and such! :)
And thanks for picking up the gardening baton - July in central Konnecticut is a glorious vegetable garden time - everything we planted (and then some) is cranking.
>here<
Here. Just put some squash in the ground.
You’re giving me a giant inferiority complex with those pics of thriving plants and no weeds in sight anywhere.
QUICK TIP: Punch holes in the plastic instruction tabs that come with your plants and put on a binder ring. I would keep a separate one for Annuals, Perennials, Vegetables, Herbs and Trees/Shrubs that I was growing for the first time.
Thank you so much for maintaining this thread. I’m also very grateful for all the work that greeneyes and Justadumbblonde have done.
Thank you for keeping up the thread!
Don’t you drop me Diana! I will cut you!!...(just kidding of course)
Aphids trying to make a comeback on my peppers and greens.....circle of life is coming around. Baby lady bugs spotted in garden today!
Goodbye aphids!!!
I added ‘Justadumbblonde’ to the ping list, next go-round!
Nothing better than hungry Baby Ladybugs! Score! :)
Great tip!
Birds finally found my new blueberry bushes. Had to put up the netting.
