A new study published Friday in the Society for Personality and Social Psychology journal found that a quarter to a third of heterosexual women have gone on a date with a guy they weren’t interested in — just for a free meal.
“Foodie calls,” can happen when money’s tight, the grocery store is out of a favorite frozen meal, or a must-try entree is just too extravagant to justify — when the tab comes out of your own bank account.
Two studies, the first conducted with 820 women, and the second with 327, asked participants if they ever engaged in a plate for play: 23% of the women copped to it in the first study, 33% in the second.

You’re talking about a simple payment for goods received. That is not and has never been how mating rituals work—probably in any species.
The gent makes his pitch and sometimes it is effective (even in some cases when the woman was simply attracted to the meal) and sometimes it isn’t.
Both with other species in nature and in the old world, the benefits have never been guaranteed.
And of course a successful courtship and resulting mating, at least through the raising of offspring, is by far the best outcome for those offspring, which is in the interest of both the eventual parents and their offspring.

Basically the authors are saying it’s evolution. Women see men as the provider and will manipulate men to get those resources.
Men are wise to the routine...Part of the dating game...

I can tell you that I have never even thought of doing that nor have any of my women friends. How much could you even enjoy the meal with some guy who’s a turn off?

haha Nah, they still chowed down. There’s even a print model for Macy’s I dated a year ago, and she looks amazing in person and better on those ads. I feel sorry for her new BF because it might traumatize him like it did me...
