A third of women only date men because of the free food: study

A new study published Friday in the Society for Personality and Social Psychology journal found that a quarter to a third of heterosexual women have gone on a date with a guy they weren’t interested in — just for a free meal.

“Foodie calls,” can happen when money’s tight, the grocery store is out of a favorite frozen meal, or a must-try entree is just too extravagant to justify — when the tab comes out of your own bank account.

Two studies, the first conducted with 820 women, and the second with 327, asked participants if they ever engaged in a plate for play: 23% of the women copped to it in the first study, 33% in the second.

If paying for meals didn’t work as a ritualistic display of ability and willingness to provide for a female mate, males wouldn’t do it.

And in the old world, that display would have benefits. In the modern world, however, women have no need of a provider. They either earn their own money, or they have Uncle Sucker pay for everything. As a result, men who buy women (who they aren't already sleeping with) dinner now are simply demonstrating that they are marks, chumps, and suckers.

That would be fair if the females were likewise paying attention to that ritualistic display - and not simply trying to get a free meal.

The first two dates with my wife (30th Anniversary this year!) she paid. First one was breakfast (after meeting her at church). I forgot my wallet at home or in my truck, we took her car.

The second time I had left it in my truck in the parking lot at the restaurant and it was pouring down rain and she said that I shouldn’t run out there.

She tells the kids “I’m glad I was still young or I would never have married your dad. I wouldn’t stand for that crap now!”

Funny though - she STILL pays for dinners out. I hate spending money at restaurants, but she enjoys our weekly outing. But - she has to pay for it. Joint bank account - but this way she can enjoy it, but I don’t have to see how much it was!
