A 16-year-old from Gary was shot and killed Thursday while attempting to sell his Xbox.
The teen, identified as Johnny Peluyera, was with his father when they met up with two men near 51st and Maryland streets to sell the teen’s Xbox. They arranged the meeting using an online sales app.
The boy’s father said he knew something wasn’t quite right. He spotted a gun and tried to warn his son, but the teen was shot in the back as he tried to run back to his father’s car.

There’s no way I would do a meet up/sale like that. And if I did, I’d be armed and ready. Just plain stupid. Situational awareness.

I have sold cars, and have bought and sold music gear on craigslist. I have had people simply give an address to meet for a transaction and that address turn out to be a police station. I have no problem with that. I also have a poorly concealed pistol in my back pocket when I make a transaction. Walmart parking lot is another good location, as there are cameras recording 24-7. Normally the risk is greater as a buyer, as you are assumed to be caring an amount of cash.
Perps should get the needle. Kid should have used eBay or traded it in at a store
There are more of those vicious predators amongst us than ever, and they are absolutely merciless.
It behooves us all to carry some means of self protection and keep our heads on a swivel.
A friend worked in Gary, occasionally late into the night.
One night the coppers pulled him over at a light, for no reason?
They told him NOT to stop at the lights!!
Slow way down, look both ways and proceed if clear!
The same guy was northbound on the Ryan when a lady friend of 0bama blasted through the fence and down the embankment to t-bone him!
He found other work.

Look closer. The shower curtain bar is in front of his hands, and there's nothing on that bar but the curtain. The bar he's attached to is behind the shower curtain bar. It's possibly a water pipe. Otherwise, yeah, I agree, no shower curtain rod would hold up to that.

It used to be a very prosperous blue collar steel town almost rivaling Pittsburgh...when America was still America.
This is also why PayPal and UPS are the safe bet. Avoid physical contact with unknown “customers”.
My sister in SC says the police in her area have a spot in their parking lot for people who want to meet to do online purchases like Craig’s List.

I sell stuff through CL, FB Maketplace, and all the others apps all the time. I've never sold anything through eBay. It's all a matter of using common sense and being safe. Meet in daylight at a public, well-traveled place. Bad things happen sometimes.
