A mysterious large mass of material has been discovered beneath the largest crater in our solar systemthe Moon's South Pole-Aitken basinand may contain metal from the asteroid that crashed into the Moon and formed the crater, according to a Baylor University study.

A large meteorite?
Reminds me a bit of Preston & Child's novels "The Ice Limit" and "Beyond the Ice Limit."
The story isn't situated on the moon, but it deals with a large meteorite.
