A Memorial Day question about RVN JUNGLE ROT. Did you get rid of it? Forever? How?
Most of the Grunts I have known and many others acquired this personal reminder of RVN.
Because of a head wound and no insurance, I used the VA for a few years and they provided a medication. After lucking into a solid health plan I went a Dermatologist once a month for a few years, it turned out he was a schemer. Last visit he was on vacation, his stand in said , the only to get rid of it was to shower and change clothes three times a day! And that was a maybe.
My father in law was a Physician, so he would call in the same prescription (Tri-???Something). Worked but it never ever disappeared.
A few of years ago the Pharmacist, a former RVN guy, said there is newer and better stuff and it is over the counter, no script needed. He recommended tow different products. LAMISIL!!! It worked well!!! But not a permanent solution? Returns every couple of weeks.
A year back I was bushwhacked by poison ivy, head eyes This Dermatologist proscribed TACROLIMUS 0.1%. for both problems. It worked like a champ!!!
And just now a year later, IT IS BACK???
I work out four times a week , bike, rollers spin bike, rower...always sweat like a horse, everything soaked, puddles under the rollers.
Has anyone found a permanent cure for jungle rot???
Talked with my dad and uncle who served in The Nam and they had treated a few areas with Tea Tree oil - worked even on getting rid of toe nail fungus (surface). My dad had a spot of fungus on his chest and it disappeared never to return. Use it straight out of the bottle and apply it with a Q-tip to the area. Hope it works for you.
Move to the desert.
I am sorry for your affliction.
3 generations and counting in my family. Came out of the swamps of the MD eastern shore where my grand dad was born.
boy that sounds awful man.
Sorry.
Head wound can cause a lot of problems too. I have one but not from military.
Hope it doesn’t affect your sleep or cause chronic headaches etc.
And hope you get an answer to your problem.
We used to kill fungus infections like ringworm with a saucer of vinegar, some real copper pennies oxidizing in it till it turns green, then dab it on the fungus till it goes away.
Real Copper pennies are hard to find now days. I also used some scrap copper from other sources. Barely submerge them in the vinegar and allow the air to oxidize them.
Pennies minted before 1982 are copper. Dirt common.
She is trying to help.
Finally in the mid nineties I took an air conditioned indoor job that was less physical, and kept my body hair shaved for about three years while using of the shelf anti-fungal creams.
When it stayed gone and I could wear underwear I bought twenty nice eight dollar a pair sets.
I still shell out for expensive briefs.
Anyhow, combine whatever treatment with being in a cool dry environment, and remove your body hair for the duration. One year may not be long enough.
Sorry I didn't know of a magic bullet.
It occurs to me that the copper- plated zinc pennies might do just as well, or better. Zinc is no friend of fungi.
Tea tree oil, I’ll try it.
A friend with the same problem recommended 90% alcohol, to dry it out, moisture is the root problem???
Burns a bit but kind of works.
The dermatologist, did NOT test, but in her opinion, thinks it is a yeast infection, not a fungus?
I always thought it was a fungus?
You made copper acetate, cooper salts can be anti-fungals. Could probably use copper sulfate or use zinc with vinegar- zinc salts should have similar actions.
Copper wire is easy to find at any home-goods store.
I see some medicated powder for sale that has zinc oxide as an ingredient. Could something like that help?
combine whatever treatment with being in a cool dry environment,
Everything points to sweat, moisture.
The days not working out I’m outside, grass to cut, dogs gotta get out and about EVERY day, grandkids ...
Only cotton boxers if any and shorts most of the year where possible. Air flow seems to help.
