FACT CHECK: ARE STATES WHERE MARIJUANA IS LEGAL PASSING LAWS TO STRIP PEOPLE OF THEIR GUN RIGHTS?
Check your fact ^ | 10-05-19 | Joseph Lafave

A meme posted to Facebook claimed that “nearly every state that has legalized [marijuana] has also legislated that you lose your right to own a gun if you are prescribed it, or buy it recreationally.”“Pot legalization is turning out to be a back-door way for the government to get you to voluntarily give up your gun rights,” reads the image.

True here in Illinois. The State Police are cross checking Medical Marijuana users against the FOID database.

It’s one or the other. Not both.

“Until there is some registry to cross-check tokers with gun purchases or CCW license holders,“

Such a registry exists here in IL and they are using it.

Looks like WA is more respectful of the 2nd Amendment than fedgov (and some FReepers, sadly). From the WA state website =>

______

May I purchase a gun if I am a medical marijuana patient in the database?

The medical marijuana authorization database is in no way connected to any other system and does not affect your right to purchase or carry a gun. However, under federal law, marijuana possession is illegal for both recreational and medical use. The federal law affects gun ownership. It is unlawful for a firearms dealer to sell or give a gun to a person who uses or is addicted to a controlled substance that is illegal under federal law.

“Who said that pot is not a gateway drug pot, now mushrooms, next up coke, heroin, meth will be allowed.”

Seattle has “decriminalized” possession of up to 3 grams of meth and heroin. Not sure about coke. Of course, that law is to promote the sainted homeless drug addicts from having to face up to reality. What a mess! No society can prosper with this king of crap going on.

To say nothing of the folly of the notion that government can take control of the supply.

This is anecdotal but I do recall hearing on the radio that Oregon was cross checking medical marijuana card holders to CCW holders. The CCw holders would have their CCW revoked. This was a few years ago and I haven’t heard anything since.

“I think legalizing pot and magic mushrooms is the another way the left is seizing control. Make a large part of the population on dependent on drugs, take control of the distribution of the drugs, then threaten to cut off supply unless you obey our commands.”

You know it.

But they don’t need to threaten. Using these drugs makes the users want to obey their commands.

"Also, Denver just approved magic mushrooms. Who said that pot is not a gateway drug— pot, now mushrooms, next up coke, heroin, meth will be allowed."

Well, I always did say that all we had to do was let the lib's have all the drugs they want and just set back and let nature take its course... Pretty soon they'll be too weak, blind and stupid to raise their heads..
I just hope the heck they don't take us down along with them... :(

Sad state of affairs. And it all started with “medical” marijuana. Who would have seen that coming... /sarc

They are so brazen that they don’t even call them medical mushrooms.

I remember seeing this question on the form the last time I bought a gun in a store - I had to laugh. I can’t remember the exact wording, but it went something like, ‘Using marijuana is a federal felony offense. Do you use marijuana?’ I figured they must have really meant to ask if I had been convicted of a marijuana offense, since I knew the federal government would never ask me to incriminate myself.

Nice try. We all know that the 10th Amendment was incredibly watered down by Wickard v. Filburn, 317 U.S. 111 (1942). In that case, a chicken farmer was deemed to be affecting US commerce for wheat by producing local wheat for his chickens. The interpretation has been broadened now such that the Feds have jurisdiction over ANY product that is within the US; the phrase is "has moved in US commerce." That includes marijuana.
