P,s. Maximum Security was one I was hoping for too. He was the fastest horse. But he did run into others. And that is a disqualify error. It could have been by accident or not. But still disqualifying.

"The rules of not cutting into other horses is for the safety of the horses and jockeys"

That's what it came down to. Horse racing has been under a microscope lately. Efforts to make the sport safer were even addressed during the NBC coverage today.

Maximum Security was the best horse, but he cut in front of one horse, and almost clipped heels with another one, during the race, thus "impeding the progress" of both. This is why he was placed behind both of them in the final order of finish.

While the second place horse- Country House-filed the objection, the stewards can look at the whole race and rule if something has gone wrong.

They do not want any aggressive riding to occur.

There is a series on Netflix called “Luck” and it is about horse racing. Amazing photography right in the face of the running horses. Not for the faint of heart.

And if they had let it slide, it would have given the nod that Derby races will not enforce all rules.

There is also a great movie called “LET IT RIDE” which is the funniest movie about horse racing EVER. If you know people who love to go the races, you will love this movie. I promise. Richard Dreyfus really in a comic tour de force performance. Hate him politically but that boy can act.

It was painful. Those interviewers were the worst I have ever seen. I literally kept yelling “SHUT UP” to the TV.

All he wanted was ONE GOOD DAY! It was my husband's favorite movie. We own it and we would watch it when we wanted to laugh.

Not much — less than $100. It was a lottery at the PT place I go, so it was the therapists, aids and the girls behind the counter who do the paper work and phone calls, who were in the lottery. One of them had picked the expected winner, so with all the questioning about the results, I will offer to share it with him.

Never saw a derby like this and hope never to again!!

The Stronachs own a lot of race tracks, including Pimlico, where the Preakness is held. There is some talk of shutting down Old Hilltop and making Laurel Park into a supertrack.

Pimlico does need renovation, and it might need to be shut down temporarily, but it should not be a permanent shutdown.

This is not the first time a Derby winner had been disqualified. The 1968 winner, Dancer’s Image, was disqualified when the post-race test came up positive for phenylbutazone. Forward Pass was declared the winner.

Dancer’s Image had been given the drug the Sunday before the race. The irony is that “bute” has subsequently been legalized, and virtually all racehorses use it.

Dancer’s Image, meet Maximum Security.

It did look accidental, like he was trying to move away from the rail to prevent getting caught in traffic, which has happened to horses.

We’ve all seen incidents where a car tries to change lanes and hits another car. it’s an accident, but you’re still liable for it.

Horse racing gave us our first motion pictures, trying to prove taht a racehorse does in fact leave the ground with all four hooves.
