A Pennsylvania man is facing criminal charges after flushing his grandparents' ashes down the toilet.

Thomas Porter Wells, 33, allegedly did the deed after his mother kicked him out of her house because of his drinking habit and marijuana use.

Wells texted his mother later, saying "and soon as you die you'll be going in the same spot where you belong down the (expletive) you (expletive)."

**SNIP**

Wells faces two counts of abuse of a corpse and criminal mischief.

Maybe she should move somewhere else, not tell him where, and hire a crew to knock the existing house down. We’ll see who laughs last. And there’s always the chance he might be in it accidentally.

There are laws against what he did in the state. In Pennsylvania, there are no state laws controlling where you may keep or scatter ashes. Ashes may be stored in a crypt, niche, grave, or container at home. If you wish to scatter ashes, you have many options. Cremation renders ashes harmless, so there is no public health risk involved in scattering ashes.

However, scattering ashes on land and in water are handled differently. The federal Clean Water Act requires that cremated remains be scattered at least three nautical miles from land. If the container will not easily decompose, you must dispose of it separately. The EPA does not permit scattering at beaches or in wading pools by the sea. Finally, you must notify the EPA within 30 days of scattering ashes at sea.

The Clean Water Act also governs scattering in inland waters such as rivers or lakes. For inland water burial, you will be legally required to obtain a permit from the state agency that manages the waterway. If you do not get it, you are in violation of the act and it falls under 33 U.S.C. 1319(1) & (2). Knowing Violation: 3 years and/or $5,000 - 50,000. And because the treated waste water is at some point returned to public waterways, it violates the act.

I’ve always doubted whether the ashes were really the dearly beloved or just some ashes the crematorium had laying around the place.

It’s a heathen practice. Dating all the way back to Old Testament times; God’s people were never cremated.

A biblical view against cremation.

“Why is cremation wrong?”

Un-Christian practice.

I think all of us are ‘God’s People’. Who else could have made us?

(And I don’t think that the material shell is something that God is at all concerned with, after we’ve left it - if He is ever concerned with it at all.)

I know lots of faithful Christians who decided to be cremated. Especially when it’s chosen to spare loved ones excessive expense, it seems a thoughtful, Christian decision to make. I’m certainly going to make that decision, and not just to spare my loved ones - I won’t care at all about this old ‘thing’ by that point.

Excessive care for what happened to the body after death was also a very ‘pagan’ concern - to the Egyptians, among many others.

Too many adults these days never seem to grow up. At 33, this man is extremely immature.

Way too many. I remember an airline pilot who carries a dog’s ashes everywhere, including the cockpit.

Well, to your ‘story’,and not necessarily to the substance of the original post:

Another person’s heart is an absolute mystery except to that person and God. We are all full of pains and unresolved issues, and we have lots of quirky, individual ways of coping with them.

If a pilot found condolence and confidence in having his dog’s ashes with him, I’d probably feel a lot safer that way than if he didn’t have them :-)

I seem to have known quite a few Christians who made that choice. But, judging by some of these posts, I guess they were not ‘good’ Christians, or not the ‘right kind’ of Christians...

“Odds that this loser is an Obama/Hillary voter? 100%”

I’d say more like 50/50 as I think there’s a 50% chance a guy like this has never voted or even seen a voting machine.

“Odds that this loser is an Obama/Hillary voter?”

Odds are that any loser of this type is a rat voter. I know a guy that pays the way for his worthless 44 year old dope smoking unemployed son. He pays for food, rent, utilities, spending money, truck payments, the works.

This parent is totally broke doing this. He’s 69 years old, owns nothing and is massively in debt keeping his kid from having to work.

What the parent does not understand is when he croaks, what’s the kid going to do to get money? Of course he will vote democrat, but welfare won’t keep up his current lifestyle.

This scenario fits many discussed in this thread. These parents are literally ruining their kids lives by doing this.

If he did that with any ashes of a beloved relative of mine (there aren’t any ashes, but if there were...), I’d kick this emotional infant with hobnail boots until he was so black and blue, you couldn’t tell who it was. How utterly cruel and disgusting, what he did. We have way too many of these emotional infants walking around these days—selfish, needing instant gratification, not caring about consequences or other people.

No kidding. I left home one week after graduating HS and I loved my upbringing and hometown.

My parents always made it clear: you will not graduate HS and go straight to work AND live in this house. You may live here if you go to the local college and get good grades. You also will have curfew and chores. Otherwise, move out to go to work or (the most encouraged route) move out to go to college at least a days drive away.
