Because it’s typical “news” scaremongering - ad revenue generation.

Nine days is not enough time. Just wait until the next one that is dead on track to Earth.

A clever (and slightly dishonest) way to get you to read the article. But at least they didn’t say “This will shock you!” or “Just use this one weird trick.”

“scientists warn”
“Earth will be entirely safe”
What’s to warn, when they knew there was no danger?

That’s so just in case you happen to be in that area, at that time, you have been warned...............

Agreed. Sounds like a good time to put off any prior travel plans to the Moon. [Or, delay your trip a day if you happen to be returning to Earth]

~~~
Because it never would have been posted here or noticed by anyone if it was published as the original draft copy was submitted; ‘Asteroid to fly by, scientists notify’
Editors don’t get paid to vet truth anymore. Editors are paid to find a competitive level of sensationalism to draw clicks, while avoiding embarrassing mistakes or legal burden.
Cause globalism. They love the idea of a scenario in which the entire world is threatened and all the people of the world can come together, hug, and work on the problem as one.
We are now able to land satellites on asteroids. How cool would it be to land a satellite on this one and watch the earth flyby? Even cooler would be to capture the actual collision.
If this one or another asteroid hits Earth, assuming anyone is left alive, the newspaper headlines will read....
“Asteroid Hits Earth. Minorities, Women, Children, LGBQT Hardest Hit.”
Because it's from Yahoo. Click bait web site.
Interesting that space.com has nothing (at least I could find nothing) about this.
