Georgia Engel, whose distinctive voice and pinpoint comic timing made her a memorable part of “The Mary Tyler Moore Show,” on which she played Georgette Franklin, girlfriend and eventually wife of the buffoonish TV newsman Ted Baxter, died on Friday in Princeton, N.J. She was 70.
John Quilty, her friend and executor, said the cause was undetermined because Ms. Engel, who was a Christian Scientist, did not consult doctors.
Ms. Engel was twice nominated for an Emmy Award for her work on “Mary Tyler Moore,” which she joined in 1972, during the show’s third season.

I was watching the later seasons of MTM on Saturday nights. Remember Georgette , Ted, the adopted son , the dog & baby.
She was a very funny lady.

Idiots. I saw one in an ER one night many moons ago with both eyes avulsed from their sockets due to an auto accident. Refused medical care. He survived but henceforth I saw him totally blind walking around with a white cane on campus.

Correct me if I’m wrong but didn’t Jean Harlow die because her Mother was a Christian Scientist and was too late getting her the treatment she needed. I think Ginger Rogers was a Christian Scientist also.......
So sorry to hear this. I was acquainted with Georgia when we were college age back in Hawaii mid-60s, before she started her career. Very sweet girl. May she Rest In Peace.
She was funny as Amy’s mom on Everybody Loves Raymond.
Boy she sure handled that cigarette lighter like a champ when Robert, to make her feel better about smoking, asked her for a cig and a light. In all my years of smoking, I couldn’t do it that good......that was one of the funniest scenes of that show.....;)

Wow that is sad. I just watched the Raymond episode where Robert caught her character smoking. She was so funny. RIP.
Sad that both she and Katherine Helmond have passed away in the same year.
