no bread.no carrots. no squash....no pasta..no potatoes...no rice....no milk....no....no....no.....
I can see limiting carbs.....but such severe cut backs is almost unnatural.....
what???
you mean electrolytes like potassium that can cause cardiac issues and even death when too high.....
I've been a runner for more than 50 years, which also puts me at higher risk for A-Fib.
A 16%-18% increased risk because of low carbs really does not sound that important.
If 10% of people have A-Fib, an 18% increase is just 1.8 persons per hundred.
On the flip side, high carb intake had a definite impact on the severity of my A-Fib.
In hot weather, I used to drink as much as one gallon of orange juice per day (I love grove fresh OJ!).
Five years ago, my A-Fib suddenly became much worse. I completely cut OJ out of my diet and replaced it with water.
My A-Fib dramatically improved. I now go as long as a month with no symptoms at all.
You might want to read about and try a 24 hour fast (zero calories) if you have Type 2 diabetes.
Several studies have come out just within the last year that show your blood sugar level completely resets for up to one week after a 24 hour fast.
Did lowering your a1c help your hemoglobin carry more oxygen?
Did you notice increased mental clarity?
I’m just going this route now and taking BHB to increase ketosis.
Absolutely, yes!
I went carnivore last October/November. Blood Pressure is again normal. No more swelling in my legs. Lost 30 lbs. My weight is now smack in the middle of the **normal** recommended range.And... A1C is again normal.
The most important is that I am no longer hungry. I often forget to eat. Imagine that! What a relief!
I could spend a lot of time debunking this crap, but why bother? I’ll just point out a few things:
1) “...said the studys lead author Xiaodong Zhuang, M.D., Ph.D., a cardiologist at the hospital affiliated with Sun Yat-Sen University in Guangzhou, China” [speaks for itself]
2) Who paid for the study? Not stated, but usually it’s Big Carb. The stakes are absolutely HUGE here. If low carb catches on, millions of jobs get displaced, and Soy Boys become REAL MEN. Lots of reasons to try to nip this ‘fad’ in the bud.
3) If you do read into it, the controls on the ‘test subjects’ are probably the worst of just about any study. They looked at what they said they ate, over many years, and turned that into average daily carb counts. Sorry, but that’s simply a BS way to do it.
I’ll leave it at that and let Dr. Berry take it from there on YouTube.
Sounds a lot like Big Carb has penetrated FreeRepublic. You can see the ABJECT FEAR in Big Carb, by the postings. These types of postings occur time to time here, and, almost always, are by industry insiders, who feel everything they’ve been taught and believed is coming undone.
New insights into the mechanisms of the ketogenic diet
I have many more if you are truly interested in learning.
Thank you for the excellent reference. It is an good description of how ketones compete with glucose in the Krebs Cycle.
I am very interested in your references as it will save me research time. Thanks.
I've been researching this as part of understanding the neuroscience of fasting, hemoglobin, hypoxia and VEGF. When ketones are used as fuel it decreases CO2 production due to where they enter the Krebs Cycle. Fascinates me.
Was this study sponsored by the Bread Industry?!
why do you “hate to say it”? carbs are what the body runs on. Grain is important otherwise the bible wouldn’t talk of eating bread, storing grain for people to eat, etc.
People today are so foolish in following this or that new eating trend. All they do is trade one problem for another. In the short term their shift seems to work (lose weight, lower some number on lab report) but long term low carb eating (cutting out grains and starch veggies) hurts the body in ways, and for some people the symptoms show up sooner than for others.
I wonder if “ My name is Bob Greene, and I recently had a heart attack” had anything to do with low carb eating? I mean he’s a personal trainer, exercises a lot and you would think eats super healthy himself. You would think by some current diet/lifestyle advice his heart should be super healthy. Also Jim Fixx the runner comes to mind.
A sugar is a sugar is a sugar... carbs turns to sugar, the Spanish American War was fought over sugar...
Fruit?
Pyramid?
This study, that study.
Body regulation? Math?
To keto or not to keto?
There has to be an easier way. How about starving yourself a couple/few day a week. Or eating 1 meal per day?
So many choices. Runners are wearing out their knees and that is not a concern? Runners who force high levels of inflammation and over use NSAID drugs are telling is to cut carbs and reduce inflammation? And now that same insane group us telling us what to eat but don’t question their neurotic urge to screw up their physiology?
I have my doubts. But occasional periods of intermittent fasting and healthy (unprocessed) one meal per day works for me. And don’t forget the apple cider vinegar and fermented nightshades!
That quote comes to mind whenever I see any articles about "scientific research" on food. The fact is that there are literally uncountable claims made about our diets, most of which are unsubstantiated by any real research, but which most people will believe simply based on the assertion ("Global Warming is Real" / "The Science is Settled").
Diets are a sort of pseudo religion in the modern world.
You can have tons of milk products, but not straight milk.
as for what is natural and unnatural, take a look at what natural fruits and veg look like historically —
yes, but many people don’t realize cars are sugar in your body. They only look for sugar on the table and some don’t even know corn syrup is sugar Most labels not are clear and have a line saying total sugars and include everything
Did you just reference Boolean Algebra?
OJ has lots of sugar, seems you were mainlining sugar into your blood stream, and not necessarily a problem with carbs.
900+ calories a day from carbs (45%) is NOT low carb. Bogus study. Low carb is no more than 2.5% of your calories coming from carbs.
For me, it seems that having one or two high fiber 100% whole grain servings a day, which don't have any added gluten, works just fine.
