Levi’s CEO: Don’t Put Your Jeans In The Washing Machine
Fox Business ^ | Match 22, 2019 | Jade Scipioni

Levi’s CEO Chip Bergh admitted on CNN Business’ Markets Now that he still hasn’t washed his now decade-old pair of jeans. And he doesn’t plan to, either. He also slammed the old wives’ tale about freezing your jeans to preserve the color and shape. “If it’s the pair I’m thinking of, he will spot treat them or worst case hand wash if needed. But never in the washing machine,” a Levi’s spokesperson said.

"Jeans need ironing?"

OMG!!!!!!!

As a teenager I used to iron my jeans. I would starch the crease because I wanted it super sharp... and then there was the obsession with Frye boots.

I'm so glad I got over that phase. That was insane!

Levi’s are on my list of no buy items and have been for years. I now wear Lee as they have yet to make my list. And it is a long list.

OK, did not know. Bye bye Dockers. (mine might not be docker brand, but docker style.) Will look.

They were not Docker’s brand, they were Haband brand. Never heard of them but that is not new today.

My Khaki’s are Dickies brand.

And I quit buying Gillette too. For their corporate nonsense.

I had already quit when I got the word on them. Quite buying Gillette about the time Wilkinson SS razor blades came about. Then I went to Personna. (American Safety Razor) They turned out to be the very best. Used them for many years and then the stores stopped buying them and bought a ChiCom knock off, package looked identical to Personna, but you were hard pressed to get through one shave with them before they were dull.

Looked all over and could no long find Personna, went to the web and found I could buy 100 of them in a box wax paper wrapped for about $12 delivered. Best bargain ever. And they are just as sharp as I remembered and they last and last. That is a win win.

I do like to win.

Yes. My father wore khaki’s from time he got out of the Army after WWII, except when working in the field on the farm equipment. Then he wore Roundhouse bibb overalls. His explanation? They are cool, comfortable, dust falls out, and they can be washed forever.

When he did construction work, he was a general contractor, he always wore khaki’s and he hunted in them too.

Have similar from obscure Central Asian brand since 2005 or so. The zip failed early and I sewed on a new one which lasts. Washed a million times and it is still like new. Had four pairs of 501s over the same period and before. The first one lasted about four or five years, the rest from a few months to a couple years. Maybe it is my anatomy but it wears between legs and finally develops a crack. And they sure hate washing messing their paint job and also shrink after. Had no similar issues with any other pants.

Put your old jeans in a washing machine, dry them, cut them in squares, and make soft, comfy, warm quilts backed with flannel.

Not washing your jeans is part of the hipster craze for vintage and vintage-style denim. The point is to create high contrast fade lines that look cool.

Not washing helps maintain the pattern of creases and wrinkles that naturally form behind the knees and around the front pockets. The peaks and valleys of the wrinkles wear at different rates with the peaks becoming lighter over time. Not washing also keeps the original deep indigo color from fading in the valleys.

The result is dramatic “whisker” and honeycomb patterns standing out against a dark navy background. Some pics here:

I tried a couple of pairs after they moved abroad: one from Mexico, one from Honduras, as I recall.

They both were different in cut and fit (not the same thing) - from the USA 501s I had been buying for 30 years, and also different from each other!

I gave up.

I have not changed size in thirty years. I bought the same size Shrink-To-Fit 501s for all those years; they never failed to fit after two washes. It was not I who changed!

Levi’s don’t make FRCs so it’s meaningless to me.

FRC flame resistant clothing. It’s Carhart for the refineries, chemical plants, and oil fields.
