An 88-year-old Tennessee woman has been mauled to death by six German shepherds, with the authorities considering criminal charges against the dogs’ owner.
Jill Peterson was viciously attacked by the dogs on Tuesday night behind her own home while clearing a drainage ditch.

“They dragged her down the yard and all of her clothes were off, her shoes, everything. They tore all of her hair out, the casket can’t be open, it’s like a nightmare. It’s hard to believe,” sister Nina Brown told News Channel 5.
She tried to get Peterson into the backyard but she only drew the attention of the feral dogs to herself. “Three of the dogs came after me. They started after me and I had to call 911,” she said.

Imagine, after 88 years on Earth, this happens to you when you should be enjoying your golden years... Owner should have to do prison time.
The police never do anything about it, no matter how many calls you make. I guess legally they can't do much until the dogs hurt someone? By then it's too late.
Oh, to my mind, too. But I’m really PO’d at the local LE for letting this fall through the cracks.

They can do plenty, especially since most places don’t allow breeding withough a license, allow for checking on vaccination status, licensing status. I’ll bet the previous calls and just a bit of investigation would have provided LE with enough probable cause to check the owner out. And I’ll bet he’s been up to something very illegal.

I grew up in a town where outsiders dumped their unwanted dogs. The abandoned dogs would form a pack and run the streets. Sometimes they’d attack small dogs and a few times people. Now and then, the police would shoot the dogs right there in the street.
But, if you called the police on owners letting their dogs run loose, they didn’t want to be bothered.
Yes. This was a pack. Even dogs which are very well behaved and not in the least feral under normal circumstances change when they act as in a pack.
Back in the old days - we shot dogs like this. Screw the neighbor(s).
All dogs of course don’t have the power, jaws, or, yes, the personalities of these and other “profiled” dogs.

I tend to think there should be some sort of criminal charges anytime a loose dog(s) attacks someone. Negligence, at the least. By the “reasonable man” standard, well, who thinks it’s reasonable to allow your pack of dogs to run wild?

You can begin to see some pack behavior with two dogs, but it’s not the same as three or more.
I have three German Shepherds, 7 year old black and tan and two 1 year old whites, and they are a challenge.
Huh? GSDs are sweet, biddable dogs. They don’t attack people out of the blue.
