What’s with these young people that rarely if ever take showers and baths?

Posted on 03/18/2019 10:19:15 AM PDT by Bigtigermike

Working with them at my job, I’ve notice a trend of millennials and young folks smelling awefull. In conversations when I ask in a round about way about showering and taking a bath, they pretty much say they do it every now and then or looking at it as some strange phenomenon! Even my nephew rarely takes baths and I have to get on him about it since he works in the public and deal with gasoline around him. What gives?

My millenials male and female shower twice a day. I have water bills to prove it. In there a long time removing every hair on their bodies. Ouch!

Honestly I think a lot of it has to do with depression.

Actually most premium phones are at least water-resistant these days.

This is a tenant of Greenie life. They believe that not bathing helps to save the planet. It sounds like a joke, but to them it is not. They will even tell you how it is better for you to not wash all those essential oils away from your skin. The problem is exacerbated by many of them having an obsession with garlic, curry, and other even more potent spices that make them exude strong odors. My wife had an assistant at her last job that she had to council repeatedly because their customers complained frequently.

Interesting consequence of the luxurious times we live in. They never actually get _dirty_ or _sweaty_, so there’s no “golly I’m a mess so I need to clean up” frequently enough to build habit with.

I was in colege when the whole ‘grunge’ thing was a fad. There was one guy who took it to the extreme. Nasty, greasy hair, wore the same dirty-ass jeans every day. Wonder if he ever got a job.

Are you too young to remember the hippies. There used to be an industry of jokes about hippies who were afraid of soap. How do you hide your money from a hippy, put it under a bar of soap.

Those who do not bathe daily are devolving into a less civil existence. Avoid them...shun them.

Didn't Britian, at one time, prohibit bathing more than once a week?

I looked it up and here is what I found:

Why Bathing Was Uncommon In Medieval Europe

"Some members of the upper classes, on the other hand, rather than completely forgo bathing, tended to cut down their full body bathing habits down to around a few times per year, striking a balance between risk of acquiring a disease from the bath vs. body stench."

"This wasn’t always the case though. As one Russian ambassador to France noted “His Majesty [Louis XIV] stunk like a wild animal.” Russians were not so finicky about bathing and tended to bathe regularly, relatively speaking. King Louis XIV stench came from the fact that his physicians advised him to bathe as infrequently as possible to maintain good health. He also stated he found the act of bathing disturbing. Because of this, he is said to have only bathed twice in his lifetime."

Not necessarily true. Shower is a fairly new concept. Baths are not filthy, they’ve been used for thousands of years and some cuktuydid it better where it was effective in warding off mass diseases. There’s more water than dirt unless you’re just covered in 2 inches of dirt and coal all over

“and a low-flow shower head.”

I used one of those in the Army - it was Field Shower, Portable and if you weren’t done in four minutes you wore soap AND dirt. Cold too, yet we did it and were thankful.

I found “Snowflake”-scented soap. I told my wife, “why would you want soap that smelled like snowflakes? You use soap to NOT smell like snowflakes!”

I’ve not noticed this with the millennials that work for me. I’ve noticed it with the previous generations such as the “hipsters”.
