FULL TITLE:
QUANTUM TIME Scientists have built worlds first time machine in experiment which defies the laws of physics
============================================================
Lead researcher Dr Gordey Lesovik said by putting scattered electrons back into their original shape they had effectively created a state which went against the 'direction of time'
============================================================
SCIENTISTS have built the worlds first time machine sort of.
Working with electrons in the bizarre realm of quantum mechanics, they first created the equivalent of a break for a game of pool.
The balls scattered and, according to the laws of physics, should have appeared to split in a haphazard way.
But researchers managed to make them reform in their original order looking as if they were turning back time.
Lead researcher Dr Gordey Lesovik, of Moscows Laboratory of the Physics of Quantum Information, said: We have artificially created a state that evolves in a direction opposite to that of the thermodynamic arrow of time.
His team used a rudimentary quantum computer, which carries information on subatomic particles. He hopes their findings, in journal Scientific Reports, will help improve processing power.
Not quite Dr Who, but even Time Lords had to start somewhere . . .
So how does it work? Well the "time machine" is actually a rudimentary quantum computer made up of electron qubits.
A qubit is a the basic unit of quantum information a unit that represents one, zero, and both one and zero at the same time.
Researchers ran an "evolution program", which caused the qubits to enter a complicated changing pattern of ones and zeroes.
And during this process, the order was lost like hitting balls at the start of a game of pool.
A separeate program then modified the state of this quantum computer so that it evolved backwards, returning from chaos to order.
This allowed the qubits to return to their original starting point.
Scientists were able to perform this so-called "time reversal" successfully 85% of the time with two qubits, and had a 50% success rate with three qubits.
Can it take me back to the very early 80’s?
“Knowing all of these properties, would make it possible to calculate the paths backward to reestablish the original shape.”
Ah, but there is the rub. If the billiard balls are quantum particles, then you cannot know all of those properties, due to the uncertainty principle. So you cannot use the standard method of just calculating the reverse of the operations that were done to them to restore them to their original state.
“This means that a quantum computer would be able to perform complex tasks very quickly by utilising qubits”
Just around the corner, I’m sure.
LOL
Spoil sport!
Obviously the people in the future aren’t going to tell us......................
IF you could precisely define the exact properties of ALL of the environment
Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle disallows this.
To paraphrase Freud, ‘Sometimes, a pillar is just a pillar.’
Can we go back to before the Clinton administration?
If it worked, then it DIDNT defy all the laws of physics. Obviously it meant that we didnt get the laws of physics right.
However, this is not time travel. This is not reversing times arrows. Cause precedes effect, and effect follows cause. That is not a law of physics - it is a first principle that must be accepted if there is to be any understanding of the world at all.
There is no way for us mortals to step out of the cause-effect continuum.
vnahafoch hu ("and it was turned to the contrary"):
Purim: Vnahafoch Hu
The underlying meaning of vnahafoch hu is that what initially is perceived as a cause is really an effect, and what seems to be an effect is really the cause.
With Purim coming up, it's a great time to consider these quantum "mysteries" of the universe. Going back to December 1970, we can see that Jim Croce was a Jewish prophet when he wrote the song Time in a Bottle, because
If I could save time in a bottle
The first thing that I'd like to do
Is to save every day
'Til eternity passes away
Just to spend them with you
Time in a bottle is an hourglass, aka a sand clock. Just flip it over. There's plenty of time!
TIME <----> EMIT
emit (v.)
1620s, from Latin emittere "send forth," from assimilated form of ex "out" (see ex-) + mittere "to send" (see mission). Related: Emitted; emitting.

More below from the same author. Here we are in the second Adar, the "month of increase" (7 out of 19 years). There's a multi-layer meaning WTR what month Solomon finished the Temple (Bul, "increase").
And Egypt (aka the house of bondage) is famous for all that stuff hidden in the shifting sands of time. The Hebrew name for Egypt (Mitzraim) means the place of *double* straights, constriction points. It's like that diagram in the original post on this thread, where going forward appears to be going in reverse. If we ever to have a month commemorating quantum physics, there would be no more appropriate month for that than the second month of Adar Adar Bet.
A state of superposition is a physical state unique to quantum theory...https://blogs.timesofisrael.com/second-adar-the-month-of-quantum-physics/

Going forward in time, flipping over the time in the bottle twice means that the setup is oriented the same as at the start. Time first had to move through the "double straits."
There really is a simple explanation for everything that happens under the sun.
And it's very funny, God being the Master Comedian and all (timing is everything), but a lot of folks don't have any sense of humor. In Isaac Abraham's seed is called. Named "He will laugh." Exactly! It's the best medicine for getting out of bondage.
Puns are the lowest form of humor. That should tell everyone right there where they ultimately end up because... "vnahafoch hu."
“If the billiard balls are quantum particles, then you cannot know all of those properties, due to the uncertainty principle.”
Well according to quantum theory even the billiard balls states have a random component, but the distribution of that randomness is very narrow around the mean, so that the average position is good enough to hit the ball so it will predictably go in the pocket.
Thanks for the ping. Looks like an interesting article. Will check it out later.
“Tardis Express” - When it absolutely, positively has to get there yesterday.
I have that tee shirt!...................
The absolute vacuum of deep space within the 238000 miles to the moon was just pronounced to be inaccurate a few weeks ago...

So weird how they got it so wrong since the 1940s!

To paraphrase Freud, Sometimes, a pillar is just a pillar.
That's particulary amusing because it ties in with an epiphany I had last night when looking up the info on the obelisks (last night, meaning before this thread came into existence). Great timing, homework done beforehand.
A very long while back for another reason (Gen 35:18, Benoni), I had run through the dictionaries on multiple Biblical words that spin off and relate to "On", Heliopolis. There are many but to focus this in:
On, "Heliopolis" [אוֹן] = "strength or vigour" H204
on [אוֹן] vigour, generative power H202
The info on the H202 link further explains this as "specially of virile and genital power"
Indeed. "On". The place of pillars named for its pillars. The house (geneaology) of the sun (light, insight). Ties right in to the concept of Yesod and Joseph, the foundation. It never ends.
People can brush off the power of the pun, but it's a masterful teaching technique, especially where history is concerned. There's always so much but when there's a humor angle, data tends to stick in the memory.
So as not to leave you wanting, here's how the birthplace of Galileo lodges into memory:
The biblical roots of Galileo's name and surname were to become the subject of a famous pun.[27] In 1614, during the Galileo affair, one of Galileo's opponents, the Dominican priest Tommaso Caccini, delivered against Galileo a controversial and influential sermon. In it he made a point of quoting Acts 1:11, "Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven?".[28]
Pisa, the birthplace of Galileo, is famous for its leaning tower (pillar, cylinder shaped). Galileo is the man famous for the telescope and seeing into the heavens:
Haha, Sometimes, a pillar is just a pillar.
The view's great from here. :)
Thanks Red Badger.
I dont know what science you took but when I was taking my classes no one talked about an absolute anything.....deep space always had a partial pressure ....admittedly very small but still measurable
No such thing as a partial vacuum, is what I was taught, precisely for the reasons you stated in your first post.
That IS the Problem!
Brilliant,
BRILLIANT!
