COLUMBIA CITY, Oregon, April 18, 2018 (LifeSiteNews) – Like 60% of Americans, Michael Bowman opposes taxpayer funding of abortion. Unlike most Americans, he is currently squaring off against the Internal Revenue Service to avoid doing so.

Bowman is a 53-year-old Christian and contract engineer in Columbia City, Oregon. He has refused to file a tax return or pay taxes since 1999, The Oregonian reports, citing the federal government’s funding of the abortion industry.

"I'm not a tax protester. I love my country,” he told the paper. “I have a duty to my country. I have a duty to my conscience.”

The IRS has sent him numerous warnings over unpaid taxes from 2002 to 2014, and in 2012 the Oregon Department of Revenue began garnishing money from Bowman’s bank account. In response, he started cashing out his paychecks and leaving only a minimum balance in his account.

This, federal prosecutors say, constituted “remov[ing] his income from the reach of taxing authorities.” They indicted him for felony tax evasion in the amount of $356,857, as well as four misdemeanor counts of willful failure to file tax returns.

Bowman’s attorney, Matthew Schindler, argued that his client was fully transparent every step of the way, from disclosing all of his paychecks to cashing them at his own bank, under his own name.

He didn't prevail because of his position on abortion - nor did the court assert this as a valid cause. The .gov couldn't prove he hid income. Well, they never got Al Capone for murder either, they got him for taxes. I still thnk this is a victory against Planned Parenthood, in my book.

Our reps give PP half a billion dollars and the states kick in more money from Medicaid. Plus, they get money when the women pay for the abortions. Plus, they make money on the sale of baby body parts. ETC.

I would hazard a guess that PP probably gets close to a cool 1 Billion from us.

The government has the power, but not the right, to ruin you. It thinks it has the right to skim money off the top of our earnings, and leaves us what it thinks we need.

Do you remember that we were promised years back when abortion was legalized that Taxpayers would never have to pay for it? NEVER believe political promises.

When did this change? Who was responsible. It would be worth the study to find out.

Wasn’t it said that eternal vigilance is the price of liberty? We have failed.

I give credit to this man’s great courage.

Yeah unfortunately the merits of this case were decided back in the 60’s when Liberals sought to withhold their taxes to avoid funding the Vietnam War.

Our current tax system is Marxism in it's purest form.

Yes, and those who called our soldiers “Baby Killers” now march for the right to kill baby’s. Oh the irony.

Federal law forbids taxpayer dollars from being directly spent on abortions,

If the government gives PP 500 mil for anything at all the government is paying for abortions. Regardless of how a grant is worded the money therefrom goes into a common pot. It is like adding gasoline to the tank in your car."It is only to be used to drive the kids to school" and you have to use other gasoline to run down to the store. Right.

In Florida when Lotto got started the rationale sold to the voters was that the money would go to Education. In the books the money went to education and the money that used to go to education now was freed up to go to other purposes,

The Crown’s subject still miss the point. It (the War of Rebellion aka Revolutionary War) was not about a 3% tax, it was about taxation w/o representation. IOW Tyranny. Our legislatures were dissolved, laws made by a parliament in a far off country w/o input or representation from the people being burdened etc. Give your bloke a copy of the DOI, ask him to rea it slowly, with a copy of Locke along side for reference to what natural rights consist of. I doubt he still would get it.

In our situation, it is disagreement with our representative elected officials and the laws/ policies they espouse.

In 1971, SCOTUS ruled that you could be exempted from military service for reasons of Conscientious Objection on the basis of believing that that particular war was unjust because, in the words of Justice Marshall, "to fight in an unjust war is to participate in murder."

Anybody else see the connection here?

Cases like this cannot prevail because anyone could or would object to something about government spending....
