The known Universe just got a lot bigger.
A new map of the night sky published Tuesday charts hundreds of thousands of previously unknown galaxies discovered using a telescope that can detect light sources optical instruments cannot see.
The international team behind the unprecedented space survey said their discovery literally shed new light on some of the Universe's deepest secrets, including the physics of black holes and how clusters of galaxies evolve.
"This is a new window on the universe," Cyril Tasse, an astronomer at the Paris Observatory who was involved in the project, told AFP.
"When we saw the first images we were like: 'What is this?!' It didn't look anything at all like what we are used to seeing."

Ping me if you do that...damn.

As a lay person I wrote a sermon years ago - using that old Hubble image of all of the galaxies and stars. It was one snap shot and was something like .01% of the entire Hubble coverage.
It was an example of God’s power, and the infinite nature of God. And what other purpose might it server? “But maybe it is like a father spreading out his arms to his little child - exclaiming ‘I love you THIS much!’. And of course Jesus also spread out his arms - on the cross - showing how much he loves us.”
Not really. The universe is immensely big but it is not infinite. One way we know that is that the night sky is not bright with light from an infinite expanse of galaxies and stars.
Yeah, my girlfriend makes the same complaint against the mirror that hangs on the back of the door to the closet.
But I think we will keep on finding new galaxies. Old ones die out and new ones are born.
That’s unsustainable!

The universe is infinite. Get used to it and invent warp drive.
Wrong. We are observing from “our” timeline. We are very young compared to what we know the universe to be. Before us the universe made many, many changes as we came into being (violently in fact in ways we could not survive). It will continue to as well; until the end of everything. When all matter is expended; super massive black holes rule and the temperature of the universe drops so cold a single thought (by means of what we know it today) will take a trillion years because there is no energy left. We expand into nothing and lose all energy.
Although the issue is disputed as to the details, the Universe almost certainly has a lifespan and will likely end when the hydrogen available as fuel for stars is exhausted. Alternatively, gravity may eventually produce a collapse back into a single massive object.
Adding 300,000 to 15 billion doesn’t really amount to much.
So many Galaxies, yet only ours has Uranus.
300,000 Galaxie 500s?
I thought Ford quit making them?
I agree with your projection as to the fate of the Universe. It is consistent with my point that if the Universe were infinite and stuffed with stars and galaxies, we would see evidence of that in a bright sky at night.
I don’t know which bible you are reading and I don’t understand what the point is you are trying to convey.
There goes Dark matter theory. Good riddance.
“There is a giant mirror at the edge of the universe that makes the space appear to be even larger...”
Bravissimo. There is a fence at the edge of the universe that just keeps getting pushed back. What is behind the fence? Emptiness? Future universe? Nope. Pure power.
