The quick and easy noshes you love are chipping away at your mortality one nibble at a time, according to new research from France: We face a 14% higher risk of early death with each 10% increase in the amount of ultraprocessed foods we eat.
"Ultraprocessed foods are manufactured industrially from multiple ingredients that usually include additives used for technological and/or cosmetic purposes," wrote the authors of the study, published Monday in the journal JAMA Internal Medicine. "Ultraprocessed foods are mostly consumed in the form of snacks, desserts, or ready-to-eat or -heat meals," and their consumption "has largely increased during the past several decades."
This trend may drive an increase of early deaths due to chronic illnesses, including cancer and cardiovascular disease, they say.

What about ultra-pasteurized?
Maybe this is off topic, but, isn’t modern medicine, modern healthcare, extending lives and the quality of life? Also, would it be possible to feed our country without modern food processing; could we all survive on organically grown and raised foods, organically grown produce, free range chickens, etc?
In other words, aren’t there some trade offs which a study such as this simply ignores?
Joe Jackson called it back in 1982: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EM2MGN_w4sU
Well no !@#$. How about people stop buying crap cause it’s got a brighter complexion than the competition. Or hell, better yet, tax and/or outlaw calling something “food” when it barely is - like HFCS. Guaran-damn-tee you a twinkie can be made without so much garbage.
Hmmm. Guess I’m way overdue.
Never knew about that tract. Thank you, but makes no sense. I like this by him better, his best effort in my opinion. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XGqmiT7JJVg Just saw him in a video for the first time today, seems a freaky looking dude.
Today’s wheat is pretty much ‘ultra-processed’. Eat at your own risk, if you want diabetes (or at least a much greater chance of it).
Life will be the death of me.
Have the actuarial tables changed to reflect that?
my cousin died from stress from trying to find healthy food to, eat
Very good points!
IMHO biggest reason some people perish early is lack of exercise coupled with excess body weight.
I feel for him. I have always had trouble putting on weight and it was depressing to find that most food is labeled “Low-Fat” or “No-Fat.”
Until I found that they still sell blocks of pure lard.
So Cheetos are out?
True, but you don’t have to eat it. The greatest unavoidable risk to life is government. CNN is a branch of the Deep state.
The 20th century was the century of Democide with over 200 million dead from government. The outlook for the U.S. In the 21st century is grave.
Death to government tyrants!!!!
The best wheat to buy would be
- 00 from Italy but hard to find and usually in tiny quantities
Or, found in most stores,
- organic wheat from the USA that is unenriched. Check the iron content. It must be less than 2% of the rda. Then you know youre not getting the adulterated crap.
- also if you can find a local mill. Here is a good one in the socal Los Angeles area. https://www.gristandtoll.com
And if you are buying pasta, buy pasta made in Italy with Italian flour. Check to make sure it has a very low iron % to make sure it isnt our crappy enriched flour. If it has that 10%, its enriched, avoid.
Oh, and dont eat any product anywhere out and about in North America made from wheat because it will be the crappy kind and it does cause digestive problems and maybe worse.
Cool for people who want health + junk: they now make cheetohs without the deadly orange fake color!! Fo reals! I jut bought some for my kids yesterday! (Which ruins that old dirty joke about the guy who goes to his doctor...)
I live on whole wheat bread, butter and strawberry jelly. And I eat wheat pasta and cereals. Coming soon on my 79th BD. No heart attacks, no diabetes, no cancer. But I do spend an hour in the gym every other day. 30 min treadmill at 20 min/mile speed walk and 30 minutes light (30 lbs) weight lifts.
I already died because of Net Neutrality. CNN said so.
Had an uncle who exercised, ate all the correct foods, didn’t smoke or drink or have any other unhealthy activities.
He died of nothing.
