It wouldn’t surprise me if we learned that the runner has decided to begin carrying a handgun with him on his route. I might, and although the added weight would be uncomfortable, it would be preferable to being attacked again by a mountain lion.
I once looked in the rear view mirror and saw I was being followed by an ATV with an enormous cat draped over it. I stopped, and the government trapper had taken it in grazing country, He estimated its’ weight at 150 pounds...before the buzzards had pulled its’ intestines out through the rectum.

I’m seeing comments on the interweb blaming human encroachment. Complaining that people are celebrating the death of an animal, blah, blah, blah.
Humans have been stalked and eaten by wild animals since we came into existence. This time the human won. This just goes back to a harsher time in our collective history, but fortunately the hike won this one.
I am sure the man’s name was David, as in king David, who slew I lion and a bear.
