Ketonic diet is one of the stranger fads to come around the bend. Normally, ketosis is considered a pathological condition associated with diabetes. Why would anyone want to artificially induce ketosis through their diet? That has the same logic as intentionally creating a vitamin C deficient diet to induce scurvy.
Yup. Three years after stopping it, I still have an itch on my scalp.
I will be using in my repertoire
I had the keto rash on my stomach about 40 years ago when I was on the diet.
Very itchy. Using a lot of pork products on the diet.
I assumed it was from the Nitrates in the products.
Stopped the diet and it cleared up in 2 days.
Of course ketosis is going to have side effects. Ask anyone with diabetes. The only question is why anyone of sound mind would voluntarily induce diabetes-mimicking symptoms.
Diabetic ketoacidosis is pathologic and can happen in diabetes. Ketosis, or ketogenesis, on the other hand, is a normal physiological process which occurs overnight to keep fuel in your blood unless you interrupt it with late night snacking.
I’ve come to the conclusion that one can lose weight on any sufficiently unbalanced diet.
And if that's not your thing, there are also the options of the rickets and beriberi diets! What better way to compliment your case of self-inflicted ketosis?
Ketoacidosis, which is what diabetics can get, is not ketosis, it's not even close to the same thing. It's like the difference between having a slight buzz from a couple of beers versus having alcohol poisoning.
Diabetic ketoacidosis is just a more extreme case of ketosis. Those on ketogenic diets have many of the same symptoms as the former, albeit more mild.
Want to lose weight? Quit eating. Drink lots of water. Works.
You’re confusing ketosis with ketoacidosis.
Ketosis is not a pathological condition. It is simply using fat instead of sugar for energy metabolism.
Ketoacidosis is a complication of diabetes, which ironically, can be treated with a ketogenic diet.
Ketosis simply means that one is burning fat...not exactly some weird, exotic, state to be in.
There’s a million different ways to lose weight. Keto works really well for those I know on it. However, it can be extremely expensive to eat that much protein. I just did my own diet of eating everything I want- just a lot less of it.
If folks believe “the scurvy diet”, they may also believe “the siege of Leningrad diet.”
You have your own personal shopping cart?
Any talk about keto and/or fasting being similar to diabetes is silly. Since doing these, my insulin and glucose levels are normal - perfect - for the first time in years. My blood pressure is normal for the first time in my adult life. All my vitamin levels are perfect, all my blood work is perfect including cholesterol (good up, bad down) and triglycerides. I get my blood work done quarterly so not a fluke.
But whatever, have a donut because that's less diabetic sounding somehow.
