Ketonic diet is one of the stranger fads to come around the bend. Normally, ketosis is considered a pathological condition associated with diabetes. Why would anyone want to artificially induce ketosis through their diet? That has the same logic as intentionally creating a vitamin C deficient diet to induce scurvy.
Yup. Three years after stopping it, I still have an itch on my scalp.
Ketosis simply means that one is burning fat...not exactly some weird, exotic, state to be in.
There’s a million different ways to lose weight. Keto works really well for those I know on it. However, it can be extremely expensive to eat that much protein. I just did my own diet of eating everything I want- just a lot less of it.
Doctor OZ was just praising this diet extensively on his show yesterday.
Asians? I’ll bet this is related to how some asians metabolize alchohol. I had an asian friend who would turn bright red when he drank, and smell of fruits..
The issue may be the quality of the fats being consumed. There isn’t a mayonnaise available, for example, that isn’t based on soybean oil. Soybean oils cause inflammation. Fat from dairy tends to cause inflammation.
Fats from avocado, beef, chicken don’t. There is fat and there is fat. This is a pretty skillful bit of non-scientific speculation.
Hydrogenated fat is definitely a no-no, for example. Transfat is a no-no.
Carbohydrate? Most assuredly a problem, and the body runs just fine on Ketone. Buddy of mine from the Army has a body fat percentage under 10 percent and was pre-diabetic. Keto shut that down right now.
My son is a type 1 diabetic and ketoacidosis is definitely bad. It’s when the body starts dumping its fluids in an attempt to flush excess glucose out of the body. Fat cells dump their ketones along with water and the effect is a vicious cycle that leads to organ failure.
The main problem with diets is that you eventually get sick of eating that way all the time.
I think a ratio of 80/20 on whole foods/processed foods is a good way to go. What this basically means is that 80% of what you eat is whole foods: Meat; fish; fruits; vegetables; and nuts. Then you can still have the slice of blueberry pie or cake or the fries. So long as that stuff is no more than 20% of your diet.
I'm thinking most people who are unhealthily obese have junk food as much higher than 20% of their overall diet.
I use Fitnesspal app. 50% calories from Carbs, 30% calories from Fat, 20% Calories from Protein. Limits Total calorie intake to Weight Loss Goals.
Most toxins are lipid soluble. They get stored in body fat.
A ketogenic diet burns fat quickly, releasing many toxins.
The liver and kidneys are overburdened, and the skin, the largest organ, and a secondary detoxification mechanism, excretes those toxins.
As they are excreted, they cause irritation of the skin: hence, rash.
