Hundreds of Flat-Earthers gather in Denver for international conference

The Flat Earth International Conference has come to Denver. The flat-earthers come to discuss their beliefs with each other and debate the ideas of a flat versus round Earth.

People not so sure the Earth is round have come from around the globe to Denver this week to discuss their beliefs at the Flat Earth International Conference, hosted at the Crowne Plaza Denver Airport Convention Center.

The two-day conference began on Thursday and ends Friday.

Self-described "flat-earthers" believe the Earth's shape has not been proven using the scientific method.

"Scientifically when you go and try to prove the curvature, or the movement, of the Earth - you can't do it," said Robbie Davidson, the founder and organizer of the conference. "There's not one experiment, from Earth, to prove Earth as what we've been taught."

Davidson said he used to believe Earth is round until 2015, when he came across a video making fun of the Flat Earth movement.

"I just started looking into it and, as a Christian, I started looking at the Bible," he said. "Well, why does the Bible say this? So, for me, it was just looking into the evidence."

Flat-earthers also believe, despite evidence to the contrary, that the Earth doesn't rotate. They say everything in the sky moves under a dome or firmament.

"I take a biblical mindset the fact that the firmament divided the waters from the waters, so that the sun, moon, and stars are inside the firmament - so it placed the sun, moon, and stars in the firmament on day four, after the Earth - so how do you have the Earth created first and then the sun, moon and stars?" Davidson questioned.

That’s the beauty of the earth being round. Every point on the circumference of the earth is the “top”. It did take a long time to figure out gravity. Many had a name for the force before Newton. Aristotle had an idea all the way back to antiquity. Newton figured out the how...but not the why of gravity. It’s took until 1915 and Einstein to provide the why.

You are looking for a graviton to answer your question. As are 100’s of physicists. Get in line....

But, before you set out to find a graviton, you’ll have to verify whether gravity produces classical waves or quantum waves...something that nobody has observed, but Einstein’s theory of general relativity allow for such gravitational waves.

You can join the LIGO project at CalTech and help them find gravitational waves.

This video is hilarious. NASA Faking Space Badly In 1983. For all you NASA lubbers out there, what is the name of this big head “astronaut” floating around in space outside of the shuttle? Should be easy to figure out the guy’s name, right?

There's a simpler explanation. They were recording the image from a monitor. Monitors in 1983 had glass fronts which were REFLECTIVE. You're looking at the reflection of someone in the room while they were recording what was on the monitor.

They did it when the sun was directly overhead. It works when two observers are directly north or south of each other. You can do it yourself and see that the earth is a globe.

Watching a ship sail away from land also clearly shows the BOTTOM of the ship disappearing from view while the masts are still visible.

Yes, he's absolutely ruining the shot and realized it. His reflection was RUINING the shot.

Did you ever watch instant replay on football when it was first starting out? They had the monitor on the sideline with a big black shield on it that blocked out the light so they could see the screen better.

Same thing here. They likely had a big black box or black curtain or something around the monitor so they could get a good picture of what was going on. Then this genius moved it, opened it or did something that caused his reflection to appear. Whatever "shadow" there was came from him moving the curtain or box or whatever the heck it was around.

This IS what happened and anybody who watches it and realizes the process knows instantly that this is what's going on.

The alternate view is that they were doing a "live" faked show and this guy ruined it. Why wouldn't they just shoot a taped segment instead of a live segment? And if it was a fake taped segment why wouldn't they just reshoot it when they saw that this guy was on screen? The alternate position is that this grand global conspiracy let an obvious fake get out there into television land.

No sense in investing in a huge conspiracy theory when a simple explanation perfectly explains it.

Nobody would suggest that that what's on the screen is causing a "shadow" on the reflection of the doctors. This is exactly what happened in your video.

Not a monitor reflection. Why would you go to such lengths to make up such a ridiculous story, when the video speaks for itself? A direct light source, or key light on the plastic model of the Shuttle threw a shadow on some dude’s face and he ruined the shot.

Then later, someone goofed and forgot to turn on the composite artwork “earth” night light too late.

These must have been outtakes that somehow got broadcast. LOL!

Okay, that video you linked had a link to the "original" video. But that is NOT the link to the original video. The original video is here:

What's different between the two is that there's about 6 or 7 seconds missing from the BEGINNING of the conspiracy video. Why? Because that first 6 or 7 seconds CLEARLY show that they're taping from a monitor. Also the original video is MUCH clearer and you can see that it's absolutely a reflection on a monitor.

Slow it down and freeze it. I did. It is NOT a shadow. It's not spinning. When you slow it down and freeze it it looks exactly like a guy looking through the eyepiece of a big camera. That "shadow" is the eyepiece of the camera. I looked at the original video and right after you see the guy you can see his hands ACTUALLY HOLDING the camera.

At 3:42 of the ORIGINAL video you can actually see the guys reflection in the bottom right hand side of the screen as it moves from the BLACK "into" the shuttle. In other words, it's REALLY clear that it's just reflection because the reflection goes in FRONT of the shuttle.

And FINALLY at 7:00 of the ORIGINAL the narrator tells us WHY they were filming off the monitor. The original space shots were done with video camera which the narrator said was much clearer. However for whatever reason (cost? Ease of distribution or perhaps ability to project on a big screen) they made 16 MM movies OF the original videos. This would explain WHY someone with a camera was filming video from the space shuttle. There was a good reason and thats why a reflection appears.

NO need to participate or believe in a global conspiracy when the evidence is RIGHT there.

Notice what's there? A monitor. If you were a news agency and wanted live coverage you were recording it off a monitor. In 1983 they certainly didn't have the capability to tape all the news cameras into the main feed from the shuttle...even if they wanted to. So I'm guessing this is how they did it.

Here is a clear picture of the actual satellite presumably NOT shot off a monitor. It's either a still or a grab off the video camera. But look how clear it is compared to the 16 mm movie that's on the video.
