Chicken fried steak (AKA country fried steak) is definitely traditional in Texas and Virginia. It may be that today’s beef is too tender to make it worth the effort.

The same concept breaded pork tenderloin or steak is still a big deal in the Midwest, and today’s pork doesn’t really require it either.

Interesting. CA despises power plants and utility companies and does everything they can to run them out of business. The power plant hubby worked at was the largest non-nuclear in the state. Having to pay carbon credits bankrupted them.

Yet Hollywood thinks it can power all their lights with the few megawatts generated by solar and windmills!

Not saying PG&E may not be to blame, but I take it with a grain of salt.

This is for real?

They tried Smell-O-Vision in the movies that one time. Must not have been a success.

I remember the stories in the old magazines that predicted the future.
By now we were supposed to have the "Automated Kitchen Of Tomorrow" that would prepare and serve whatever we wanted.

Push a button - get an apple pie.
Push a different button get a steak and baked potato dinner.
Throw the trash and left-overs into a slot and it was whisked away out of sight forever!

What we need is one of those new 3-d copy machines for food.
Feed it a photo of lysie's breakfast and get a steaming hot exact copy ready to eat!

I’m with you, don’t think Swal-not so-well was kidding at all.

Just trying to bully peeps into giving up their guns.

Did Obummer really mean, “They’ll bring a knife, you bring a gun”?

With Trump and the 30,000 Hitlery e-mails, he was just joking.

“Feed it a photo of lysie’s breakfast and get a steaming hot exact copy ready to eat”

Now wouldn’t that be neat! As long as it’s not some weird TV dinner like emulation of food.

Since I haven’t been able to cook, we are eating more TV dinners and meals in a box. Can’t wait till I can cook again! To me those seem like not quite food, it’s hard to describe. Maybe something out of Soylent Green. I feel sorry for people that think that is the way things should taste.

Thanks for posting that. I haven’t looked at news today, so missed a NYT article about VP Pence. I just love the President’s maneuver of offering to help Nancy Pelosi.

We grade a restaurant up here by how good their Chicken Fried Steak is.

Can’t imagine a part of the country where it isn’t a staple.

Cinnamon is one of the first incense. Have a small alabaster dish that it burns in during the holidays. Just make a little pile and lay a match on side in the middle You will see a small glow and plume of smoke when it’s started.

I did have it a lot growing up in Texas, so maybe it is more western. Or perhaps just not Appalachian.

I love schnitzel too. I had no idea they were related but it makes sense. Although my schnitzel has to be crispy, NO gravy, and served with lemon wedges. Country or chicken fried steak has to have a cream gravy - brown is just so wrong, Lol! And chicken fried chicken is awesome! Had some in Kerrville TX to die for

Sweet memories. One of my sons picked up the cornbread in milk habit from his grandpa and the other one likes the fried grits grandpa ate. Things change, but some things carry on. :-)

I think you are on to something there, it is very popular here in the south west.

But if the south fries chicken, green tomatoes and other things, why not steak?

FTA:The precise origins of the dish are unclear, but many sources attribute its development to German and Austrian immigrants to Texas in the 19th century, who brought recipes for wiener schnitzel from Europe to the USA.[1] Lamesa, the seat of Dawson County on the Texas South Plains, claims to be the birthplace of chicken fried steak, and hosts an annual celebration accordingly.[2]
