Maybe we should ask female super expert Alyssa Milano what her thoughts on physics are.

We need the opinion of an esteemed rocket surgeon to dispute this.

I’m laughing at the title. The Physicist isn’t an expert about whom excels in his field of endeavor.

He also argued that a single example where a woman with fewer citations than him was hired over him was evidence of this bias. (In fact, a woman, Donna Strickland, was awarded part of the Nobel Prize in physics this morning (Oct. 2), for the first time in 55 years.) [7 Women Who Broke Barriers in Science and Tech]

--emphasis added.

Sure, a single example is bad when he does it, but great when we do it in the next sentence....

A very long list of male physicists with few females. All the great composers, too.

The guy is right. Take the top 0.1% of IQ—1 in 1000. Vast majority are men. It’s a fact.

Try to explain it to the “some women have penises” crowd, and you’ll get Kavanaughed.

Anyone remember Jimmy the Greek?

He said something on national television about why black people are so good at sports - and never worked again.

I remember thinking the same thing then as I am now -
1) Maybe he's right
2)There's no way it can ever be proven
3) He's incredibly stupid for bringing it up in the first place.

Just because you think it's true, doesn't make it right to say it.

BTW, at the undergrad level, Electrical Engineers have higher math IQ than either Physics or Math majors. Or any other major.

Yes, EE is that difficult.

Women's IQ’s are clustered around the average (mean). There's fewer idiots among women and fewer high IQ types. Think 'squished together' bell curve...

Nature made the decision that survival skills of women were narrower. There ARE high IQ women - but NOT as many. There are violent criminal women - but not in a high percentage. There are idiot low IQ women - but NOT as many.

Until ‘intelligence’ can be downloaded directly into the brain we'll have fewer women at the top of any science or math field. Or chess grandmasters etc etc...

Nature also made men taller... Not that there aren't tall women... OR ... short men but... well you get the idea.

My understanding is that this guy is not entirely wrong about one particular thing that he mentioned. Men do you have a higher proportion of their population at both the high and low end of the IQ scale. Women tend to be more bunched toward the middle. Since theoretical physics is something that only extraordinarily intelligent people can excel at, it seems logical that more of the stars in that field would be men. Note, however, that this most certainly does NOT mean that there cannot be women who are geniuses in physics, and who are capable of winning Nobel prizes on the merits. Of course there are, and there will continue to be. But, ON AVERAGE, there will be more men doing high level physics and thus winning Nobel prizes.

My daughter is graduating with a degree in engineering physics with a 3.98 GPA from one of the best engineering schools in the country, and has accepted a position with NASA working in Mission Control.

My son couldn’t solve a physics problem to save his life. Maybe these generalizations are not all that useful.

It’s sure been my observation

There are exceptions

My ex girlfriend is the dean of Hydrology at UT Austin

Her family was ravaged by cancer in Kingston JA area

High incidence of radon in those calcium carbonate rocks or at least they allow it up

She was a forerunner in the study of radon

In my 40 years as a computer chip designer I have had the privilege of working with several very gifted woman engineers. I have deep respect for these women and thank them for the mentoring some had provided me over the years
